2021 Incredibly poor customer service…
Checking in, we were really pleased to get an end-room on the 20th floor with amazing views. The check in staff were pleasant. But, it ends there…
Paid extra for the “free” continental breakfast, only to find out there is no such thing. But they’ll knock $15 off whatever you order. Waitress seemed to be writing our order down, but then did not deliver what I asked for. She seemed overwhelmed and I was too hungry to argue it.
Came back in the afternoon to get some ice cream for my son and I… waited 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us, then another TWENTY damn minutes to get a couple scoops of gelato; over $13 btw. Got back to the room and found 1 spoon, 1 fork and 1 knife in the bag with our TWO separate cups of ice cream… I took the fork and gave my son the spoon. That’s just pure idiocy and negligence…
And the pool? Trashy people letting their kids eat sausage and eggs sandos from Starbucks and cookies in hot tub… not really on the hotel I suppose, but maybe they need someone to check the pool area on occasions and/or not allow food?
The parking garage is too small for anything larger than a full size pickup; 6’8” is max height. The “oversized” lot around back works, but I was a little nervous parking there with the lack of security.
Rooms are nice, clean, and modern. Not much around the hotel, but can walk to several places in about 15-20 mins. Most likely would not stay here again.
update during check-out
When I booked, I paid extra in advance for the breakfast and the parking.
Last morning there tried to call the restaurant several times to order some breakfast to pick up, they never answered. Finally got downstairs at 11:10 and was told breakfast was over and that the wouldn’t honor my voucher. Told the guy at checkout about them not answering the phone and got a “Aw. That’s too bad. I’ll let the restaurant manager know”. No offer to reconcile.
After waiting like 20+ minutes to check out, the guy tells me my bill and I was a little surprised. So, I asked him to break it down… these frickin’ people tried to double charge me for parking! They tacked on $44 PLUS taxes and fees for parking, even though it was included in my rate. When I brought it up to the guy he says “lemme check that. Oh you’re right…” Had I just dropped my keys and left I would have been charged extra. Glad I stuck around to verify my bill. But that’s pretty sheisty… how’re they going to add parking on top of my rate that already includes parking??
Buyer beware with these clowns.
2022 update It’s been a year and my son was begging me to try this place again. Similar experience as before. The desk staff was great, super friendly. They honored our request for a high floor, which my boy loved. The pool area was a lot cleaner this time and we had a pleasant experience.
The restaurant is the same. The overpriced food is OK. Just like the health dept sign says on the door. They are just “ok”. Service still was unfriendly but at least they properly packed our order this time.
Parking is $22 now, apparently, not $44. However… if you pay in the parking garage, it’s $12/day, so do the math based on your stay. There is no oversized lot anymore. Or I couldn’t find the entrance now that the construction equipment is gone.
The “free breakfast” and “free parking” scam still seems the same based on dialogues with other guests. Don’t fall for their “package”. Last best advertised rate was $161/night, + $22 for parking. The “package” apparently costs $230/night. So, again, do your own math… it never adds up.
Anyway. Bumped them up to 3 stars as our experience was much better this time and the gov rate of $125/night was a lot more palatable than that “package” we paid for the last time.
All in all I’d give the hotel 4/5 (price a tad high). The restaurant is a solid 1/5 and brings the average for the hotel down.
We’ll likely be back if I can score a sweet...
Read moreVALERIE: from front desk was very nice and helpful * 5 stars
Room: have a darker lighting without the option of making it brighter, no microwave in our room, not warm or cozy in my opinion. Not worth it * 3.75 Stars, bathrooms nicer than the room.
ROOMSERVICE: there was no room service for our 5 day stay
INTERNET: click by saying you want to become member and it will be free otherwise you will be paying ~$14 U.S.
Staff: seems like staff is not does not communicate very well in terms of payment, My situation was that i arrived lot sooner than my friend (room was under his name, and they already had his credit card) and was told that I can come at 2pm for early check in. *3.75 Stars
So i did and was told that they will need my credit card, the clerk didn’t inform me that that she was trying to run about $2000 on my credit card as security, all she did was just ask for my credit card , would be nice if they can explain prior to running the card. So had to wait 6 hours in lobby to wait for my party to arrive and so i can check-in.
and I was already tired from long travel, so i also did not ask her, i was thinking that she is just taking information, and she runs the card mentions that it is declined, i asked how much is she trying to run, i explained to her that this card does not even have limit of 2000. Reading other reviews, looks like other people have also had trouble with payments and credit cards, and miscommunication from staff.
Lobby area: * 5stars, very nice spacious and luxury lobby area on main floor and the 2 floors above
I was informed by front-desk person that the 2nd and 3rd lobby floor lobby area has more privacy, and as its a 6 hour wait before i can check-in i can go up on 2nd and 3rd floor lobby area and lay down to be more comfortable. So later i did, and it had been half hour and i was woken up by a staff member (middle-aged man, who wasn't a front desk staff but worked in the hotel), he said that he had been told that i was there and to check on me who i was. So i explained to him that front desk already knows i am here and i was told my them to use the upstairs lobby area, and my fellow group members have not arrived yet and i cant check in as my credit card does not have a 2000 limit to charge security deposit. He took my name and name of person whose name the room was in. So since he had woken me up , i went back to the main floor lobby and just sit. As i was siting in main lobby, he came back again and said that he had checked with front desk and said that the guest had already checked-in at 2. I told him no one has checked-in, that is me who arrived at 2pm but cannot check in for the reasons i explained him earlier. He then went away mumbling.
Parkade: **2 Stars parkade has different floors and is very lightly packed with a chance of hitting another vehicle and a weird cement pillar which is in the middle of a turn, and one has to be very careful when maneuvering around that. Parking is scarce when lots of people in town for events. And sometimes we had to park on the roof.
Elevators: not very efficient either during busy times be prepared to wait for a while. Different elevators are
Gym: is a nice decent one, with pool , hot water pool , gym area
Special members area: 2nd floor lobby has another special room for members only area. Saw through glass that there was hardly anything there, very empty, but good area for working in a quite spot
Overall the hotel seems nice but is not really worth the money to be...
Read moreWe booked this location for a 3 night stay downtown Tacoma for my daughters wedding weekend. The hotel is in a good location, good parking $20 dollars a day.. The rooms are fine, tiny fridge, no microwave, glasses or wine opener. We had a nice city view on the 21st floor. The fist night we ate dinner in the restaurant downstairs, convenient, really good service service great food. We had lunch the 3rd day in the restaurant - completely different experience. Our server was Darla. Darla had a smokers cough, and was coughing in her hands several times and was helping tables, and serving food with her germ hands. She brought my husbands salad, no croutons this time, and she arranges the dressing cup while touching the actual dressing with her cough/germ hands…. My husband ordered a burger, I ordered the turkey bacon blt. When she put down our food at the table she looked at me and my food and said “now that is going to take some serious dancing at the wedding to work off those calories” and walked away. I was like WHAT did I just hear…? Blown away! NEVER have I been food shamed from a server before LOL. I asked for a to go container during our order, which she forgot so I asked the hostess if she could get one for me at the end of our meal which she brought me promptly. The M Club - my husband was checking things out and noticed the person at the door was inviting non- status guests to come in, but the M Club was definitely off limits to us when my husband wanted to get some coffee in there the morning before haha. So stupid they don’t offer all their guests the same treatment. They exclude their coffee, what a joke! These experiences at this location has greatly formed our decision to not buy in the the Marriott Vacation Club, which we have a presentation that was offered to us for our next visit to the Westin in Maui, which we stay at a few times a year. I wish I could say the stay was great, but in the end the wedding weekend we had was overall perfect, excluding Marriott...
