Edit: This restaurant changed hands late 2024, so only reviews since then are relevant to current food and service. The previous ownership had wonderful food and the service was top notch. Went to this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. It was slow. I used to come here when it was under the previous ownership, and I have to say, during this visit I was pretty disappointed. I was bringing friends from out of town, so was excited for them to try it. First walked in, there was a kid, maybe 4yrs old, running around all over the place. There was an unattended baby in the front waiting area, a diaper bag and purse on one of the waiting area couches. So that immediately gave off a less than comfortable vibe. We were seated at our table. The waitress didn't bring waters. One of our party ordered Dr. Pepper, but said as she was ordering, if you don't have it, that's fine. I will just take water. Well, the waitress dropped of Thai Tea and just walked away, so my guest just decided to try it, since it was given to her. So she was sipping on it and checking it out for several minutes, then the waitress comes back over, says, oh, I made a mistake, grabs the drink and just walks off. No explanation about the soda that was ordered. No apology. So water. In looking at the menu I was very disappointed in the options. Overall, I would not say this was any sort of Thai food I've seen at any of the many many Thai restaurants I've been to. Almost no curry, for example. They eliminated the coconut rice that was THE best. It was replaced with this yucky version that also had curry powder in it. Couldn't taste the coconut at all. We ordered our food, then it took forever to come out, but another waitress brought it. She just started placing it in front of us at random, not one single dish going in front of the right person. And they didn't bring one of them. A few min later she came back with the other dish. When we were done eating, we asked for 2 to go containers. That never came. The waitress took at least 10 min to bring the check, and when we gave her cash and card (split checks which she totally messed up) she didn't come back for another 10 min. We finally started to just get up to go to the front when she came back with the card, then left, then a few min later came back with the change. She didn't say thanks for coming or apologize for taking forever for literally everything. I'm not a picky person at all. About anything, so this was BAD! I will never go back, and this used to be one of my favorite restaurants. By the way, the baby in the front waiting area and the kid running around was going on the entire time we were there. That baby was so quiet the whole time, so kudos for that, but leaving it in the front lobby right by the door to the patio? In this day and age? Not wise. And definitely not professional. Like I said. I won't be going back. OH, and I echo the review about no longer honoring gift certificates purchased before the change of ownership. Very bad form. Another great way to lose customers. It's going to cost more in the long run from lost customers then if you had just honored the certificates in the first place. Very...
Read moreNew owners/management. No thank you. I will never come back. We came in for a birthday and were initially "greeted" by the almost silent manager, who appeared as a deer in headlights but in charge of a relatively finer dining establishment. Another part of our party arrived a few minutes after and when asked about joining our party was rudely told "you need to wait." Not sure if this is the usual manager or someone called out and they rushed to shove someone out to be the face of the restaurant but I feel bad for the staff that has to answer to this passive person that appears incapable of running a business.
Our server was not the problem. She was very kind and capable. She was thrown into the fire and not given help and it appeared she was expected to be doing everything including serving almost all the tables; all while the manager stood by twiddling her thumbs.
We waited and waited, ordered drinks/appetizers 30 minutes after our arrival because we got up and asked for someone to come take our order and 15 minutes later some of us received them and others did not, while receiving our appetizers at the same time. The food we did receive was mostly overcooked. We asked the manager about our other drinks and also said this was not the server's fault as she had no help and the manager was just standing around literally doing nothing. The manager stared at us when we asked a question and we wondered if she would even respond and then she walked past us without even responding as though she could not hear.
After an hour of being in this restaurant and two out of six still not receiving their drinks and our dinner order still not taken, we decided to cut our losses for this birthday dinner and head to another restaurant. We told the manager we needed our bill and she then started to beg for our business asking quietly what she could do -- buy us a drink? Well, that was part of the problem, we literally could not get a drink for an hour so we'll pass on a free drink. When the manager gave us our bill she did not give us a discount and actually charged us for the two drinks we never received. Ultimately she gave us 15% off after we told her how ridiculous this "experience" was.
The decor is still beautiful upper scale Asian but the ambiance that night was chaotic and strange with most tables looking around to see where their food and drink was.
Stick with the teriyaki joint, owners, you're not doing well at this one. Unless they make some serious management changes and realize they need staff to run a restaurant, this place will be shut down before...
Read moreThis was the worst experience I have had in a restaurant in years, if not ever. The kitchen made little effort and had zero quality control, allowing dishes to leave the kitchen with unripe and inedible ingredients and cooked with rancid oil. And the owner is a chauvinist who was physically intimidating and verbally abusive. I do not recommend anyone support this restaurant.
We had been repeat customers for a while, and about 4 months ago we got a messed up to go order. We called and were told no big deal, we will have a credit in their computers and to come in whenever we were able and wanting. We live an hour away from Indochine and only go after my doctors appointments because i have been so ill that i do not get out very much. So when we asked for our credit at the end of yesterday's incredibly poor meal, the owner came over and essentially accused us of lying to get credit for a free meal. So follow the logic - he thinks that 4 months ago we called in and lied about missing and incomplete items in our order to set the stage for a free meal 4 months in the future?? I guess was came up with this little gig while i was hospitalized and fearing for my life, sure, i was plotting to scam a free meal while i was having tubes inserted in my chest and cameras shoved down my throat. That makes sense?
The owner was physically aggressive, blowing a gasket that we politely sent back sub-par food despite us going out of our way to be gracious and understanding. He towered over both myself and my mother while we were seated, getting less than 3 inches from my mother's face. Both of us are clearly disabled, I myself have a port and tubes coming from my chest and was infusing IV medications and both of us had service dogs with us. He used his height and body to be physically aggressive and downright frightening. I thought he might strike us at one point. Chauvinism is alive and well at Indochine, it was clear this man thought us vulnerable and he took advantage of that fact to intimidate us into paying before we left.
The sad thing is that the menu is good, and the decor is beautiful. However when u spend 20+ dollars on single dish you expect to be treated with respect and dignity. We were afforded neither. In fact we were terrorized into paying for a meal that was below sub par then booted out and told never to come back.
We will be reporting to both BBB and the ADA for his truly...
