I have been a member at this gym for 5 years and terminated my membership. The gym has good amenities. It has one of the biggest lifting floors, a boxing room, great fitness instructors and a large cardio area.
When I first joined, I was introduced to a General Manger by the name of Trish. I noticed through the years, she managed the gym with great success. She hired the best people in the industry, kept every department fully staffed, provided great training for her employees, built a strong team with her employees, and was engaged with the children in the kids room. You were greeted with a warm, nice smile, when you entered the gym. She treated everyone like family. After being there for many years, Trish decided to pursue another career opportunity.
A new manager Mike had to transition into this role. I noticed the gym was turning into a sour direction. Sales folks, training folks, instructors, left there positions. What happened? I noticed the cardio equipment was breaking down more often than it should. The equipment maintenance was moving into a new direction. The gym has 6 stair masters. Every three weeks 2-3 would break down. The manager would not attempt to fix it until you mentioned it to him a few times. The equipment would be fixed and break down again. When I spoke to Mike about it, I learned unlicensed folks were fixing the equipment. Most were in house employees, so they would save a significant amount of money. This has been going on for two years. I offered the suggestion to purchase new equipment, or purchase better parts to fix the equipment. Mike would not have the discussion with the 2 owners, one being his father.
A new gym has opened up in the Lodi area located on 199 main street, LA Fitness. Less than 2 miles from Teterboro NJ. It is corporate owned. It offers more amenities than Golds gym and has state of the art new equipment. I feel confidant that Golds Gym will strategize a good plan to keep up with the competition in the area. This gym has the potential to be the best in Bergen County. Overall it is...
Read moreSigning up to this gym was by far the biggest mistake I ever made, I moved from north jersey to philly the day after saint Patrick's day and still have been getting billed. While going there no one at the front desk was ever helpful with anything besides maybe 1 person...no one wants to be bothered they just want to get paid to text behind a desk. When I moved I called for 2 months straight asking why I had to sign off in person when I am 100 miles away no one had any answers...the front desk will put you on hold and then hang up on you when you're on your way out they don't care at all. Furthermore i was told I'd been e-mailed multiple times with a termination form, and finally after calling and getting hung up incessantly, on one day it finally got there, I mean who knows the other e-mails might've detoured on their own. I'm supposed to be getting billed one last time but have switched debit cards so we'll see if they try and add any more billing because they couldn't hit me with a termination fee because I moved. Worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life the only thing gold about this gym is the sign on the front. No one knows anything or can offer any help and if you call back they immediately hang up once they know it's you, they want you to lie down and just hand you're money away. Truly amazing So now they didn't have my updated debit card info which I was calling for the day before I was supposed to get billed so I could give it to Trish. The lovely ladies answering the phone continued to play the "she's not here game " she'll be here Monday I was told. I called today (Monday) to hear "she's not here" and neither is anyone in the office. Sure enough I get a text from an automated number that I now owe 1 last month and an extra $20 for a service charge...this place is one big front for screwing people, and if you sign up be prepared to be screwed and played with, to be hung up on, put on hold, and aggravated beyond belief. The worst gym I have ever dealt with I do not know how they get away with...
Read moreDonât join this gym! It has been a nightmare trying to cancel my membership and they refuse to stop charging me. I signed up to a three year contract with Tony after my year contract in the Totowa location was canceled. He asked me if I had a boyfriend and proceeded to say that if things get serious and you guys move in together that they would be able to cancel my membership with no problem. It just so happens that I move back to NY and I go to try to cancel my membership. At the location I was told that only a manager could help me cancel it so I proceed to call twice a week to see when a manager will be there and every time I would confirm and go, he conveniently isnât there. Mind you I had to pay the $18 toll every time I crossed. After a month I got fed up, went and was told to email the billing department. Why wasnât I told this in the first place! I email and show them a copy of my lease and they say that they donât take leases. I am on the lease with mother and the bills are in her name. They give me an incredibly hard time as Iâm sending any document I can to prove I moved, even my ID with my New York address. At the end they say theyâll accept the rent bill. I was told that I would only be responsible for the April 19th dues as they have a 30 day notice and I sent in the cancellation form April 15th and receive a follow up email confirming that they received it the 16th. It is now May 20th and they charged me again. When I emailed, they said they have a 30 day notice. The 30 days had already passed and theyâre trying to get away with charging me again. I told them this is unacceptable and have proof with time stamps saying that my membership would be officially canceled May 18th. Iâve never had this bad of an experience at any other gyms. Even the totowa location charged me months after I canceled with the billing department over the phone. I do not...
