Park is growing and becomes more and more wonderful! I visit frequently since it has opened and try to update this review as updates at the park occur. This year, late 2020, we have a new park friend- a nine banded armadillo! He is friendly for pictures and videos but please no touching or teasing. There is currently only one covered picnic area with 2 grills and picnic tables behind the restrooms, between one of the piers and swings. You don't have to reserve, it is a first come basis, but it can get busy on weekends. But there are other areas throughout the park with picnic tables under the shade that still work for a small gathering. Kickerillo is great for kids to walk, bike or scooter ride, roller blade, etc. Sometimes it can get busy during weekday evenings and sometimes people on bikes won't practice proper biking etiquette, like calling out "rider" or sounding a bike bell to pass when riding on the pavement. Some even go faster than the bike speed limit. There is also so much to do at this park- kayaking, fishing, picnicking, volleyball, Gagaball, dog walking, nature programs, short hiking trails through the woods, beautiful areas for photo shoots; seeing turtles, birds, insects, friendly squirrels, snakes and once in a while an alligator. Earlier this year 2020 they completed a "nature playscape" for the kiddos! They have camping too but unsure during COVID-19 and I know for sure it has to be through reservation. The great addition coming is a longer trail and or pavement path, I think even connecting to 100 acre woods which is across Highway 249 by the YMCA, AND..... connect to a play ground being built across Cypress Creek (by Willie's Ice House).

A natural gem in Houston. Has more of a a state park feel than an urban park. No playground or ball fields/ courts. Not many picnic tables and hardly any bbq sites. Once again not really set up as an urban park. Paved walking jogging trail goes around lake and unpaved sections in smaller sections too. Enclosed restrooms and additiona showers for the scout camping facilities. The paved trails have tons or park benches for stopping to rest or just sit. The lake doesn't seem to be any deeper than 4 or 5 feet at the deepest. Many sections are well under 3 feet. A kayak launch is the highlight. There are fishing piers and tons of bank access for fishing. The lake does not have a natural fresh water supply so it is dependent on rain for keeping the water levels up and the water from becoming to stagnant. During periods of low rainfall the lake will drop and larger sections become too shallow for kayaks. Most out there on kayaks, are there to fish but plenty of recreational paddlers come to paddle about the large lake. The anglers are more than plentiful. If you're there to get some paddling time in, you do have to dodge their lines and they can also overtake the launch site. Pretty much every time I'm there there are anglers fishing from the launch since its convenient and uncrowded. The launch is mostly gravel but the very end is sharp edged chunky concrete debris fill, so shoes are required when launching especially when the lake...
