Overall, the ferry ride from Tiburon to Angel Island was great. The crew was friendly and fantastic - I'd give them all a 5. The ride was smooth, and docking was gentle. On the downside, I missed the first ferry ride at 10am because I could not find the entrance! It isn't marked at all. I had never been to Tiburon before. There is no sign I could find that says "21 Main Street" at the entrance. There is construction going on there, so maybe that is why. The "locals" were no help. I finally just started riding down the alleyways until I found the dock myself. There is a huge sign at the dock that says "Angel Island / Golden Gate Ferry". But you can't see it from Main street. Also, plan on getting there at least 30 minutes early to find parking. There are several lots that vary widely in price, depending how close you park to the dock. I found a lot next to CVS pharmacy a few blocks away where you can park your car the whole day for $5. Had to buy my pass (which covers the round-trip ferry ride, and includes the State Park access fee) for $17. Included in that $17 is an additional $1 fee for something (taxes?) and another $1 if you have a bike. The good thing about the bike, is they let you board first (before all the other passengers) to park your bike. Takeaways: 1) get there early 2) They need better markings on Main street on how to get to the dock and 3) I would suggest NOT taking the last ferry (3:20pm), as that is when EVERYONE has to get off the island, or spend the night there. I wish they had a 2:20pm ferry, but they only have a...
Read moreTiburon to Angel Island - via round-trip ferry ride was short, sweet, and a fun day adventure. You can also get to Angel Island via ferry from San Francisco, BUT it is double the time and double the price.
*To keep in mind: if you will be visiting from San Francisco, parking is more difficult and expensive than in Tiburon.
We only paid $5 all day, which are available in parking lots A & B. We parked in B, and it was only a short walk to the ferry terminal. Parking in lot B is cash only using an envelope system.
Our tickets were for the 10am ferry, but because of an accident on the road, we arrived late. Since tickets are non refundable BUT transferable to different time/day, staff was extremely helpful and friendly and re-booked us before boarding the 11am.
Boarding and unboarding was rather quickly. Staff were extremely friendly.
The ferry is about 15 min each way. Tickets are for round-trip.
Restrooms conveniently located at both docking locations. NO RESTROOMS ON FERRY, so make sure you take advantage of those restrooms before boarding.
There was plenty of seating inside and outside depending on your preference. We sat top deck outside because it was a beautiful day, and we just couldn't resist.
We spent several hours looping around Angel Island before returning to Tiburon for a late lunch.
So many families went to pinic and relax on the island.
Ferry is very ADA friendly with wheelchair...
Read moreNice ferry ride to Angel island from Tiburon. You can park in a variety of locations. I chose the lot next to Chase for all day $5 parking. We walked less than 10 mins to the ferry boarding area. I'm glad I arrived just over 10 mins before boarding at 10 am because it was packed and I got on close to boarding time. It took a while to board the rest of the passengers so we didn't leave until around 10:15 am but I would count on that for future rides.
You can reserve your tickets online and show your reservation before boarding. You'll get a ticket to show on your return trip from Angel Island. For the return trip, I recommend lining up at least 10 minutes before boarding so around 10 mins after the start of the hour. Departures from Angel Island to Tiburon is 20 mins after the hour, except for noon. If you miss the 11:20 am boarding, the next one is at 1:20 pm.
Our return trip on Saturday boarded much later than the scheduled 1:20 pm. I recommend giving yourself a time buffer. I got back to Tiburon...
