I’ve been a Touchstone member for 2 years but have only been to Cliffs of Id on Fairfax / I-10, until recently. It’s great to have another option in the area and our family can enjoy great food in Torrance after.
Class 5 is a smaller space vs Cliffs but it’s brand new, a very clean space with sparkling new equipment too.
It’s also not as tightly packed as Cliffs, which gets so busy that you’re really up in each other’s business quite a bit, which can get annoying, smelly and also, intimidating for beginners.
Cliffs also has a lot of people sitting around - there’s long tables where people camp out all day. Even more obnoxious are people recording themselves for social, which is everywhere at Cliffs. The crowd at Class 5 is more in and out, people get what they need and leave.
Staff are attentive and on top of things. There’s 3 bouldering structures and plenty of problems (routes) across difficulty levels. The top rope area isn’t as big as Cliffs, probably just 1/3 of the size. There’s also lower top rope walls which are great for kids and beginners.
There are no locker rooms like at Cliffs but the restrooms are immaculate and there’s a private shower, with public hand and feet washing stations.
One huge benefit is the parking is great here. It’s Torrance so there’s lots of space in this retail center lot. I like coming here from time to time to mix it up with our regular gym, Cliffs. It’s good to have more options for the $107 a month...
Read moreReally interesting experience at Class 5 today. It’s a MASSIVE space though I typically climb in Australia / the UK so it might just feel big for me. It’s super well equipped, there’s a sauna in the bathroom and great showers and lockers. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Really cool that you can top/lead/boulder in one place. I only bouldered and enjoyed the wall types they had available. There’s quite a lot of slabby stuff and some interesting cave/overhung features. I enjoyed most of the route setting but didn’t find many routes that really flowed, I’d happily put this down to being more used to euro route setters. The grading is quite soft and there was an abundance of climbs at every grade up to V8, with a bit less for V9+.
The only thing I didn’t love was the atmosphere, it’s such a big space and there was still a lot of empty areas which I’m sure will fill up over time. It was also pretty quiet when I was there (4pm-6pm) so didn’t get much of a feel for what the climbing community is like in this gym. Again, sure this will evolve as the gym has time to find...

The gym decided to open at 11:30AM instead of 9:30AM without notifying thru email nor social media. Staffs said they posted poster, google and yelp. Who the hell read poster, google and yelp before head to the gym. What a terrible communication from the gym. Very disappointed!

Mostly everything is great!
Sauna: 2/5 The temperature is so low that sat for 30 minutes next to the burner and barely sweat. The temperature is at max based on the setting outside of the sauna. Hopefully the facility will increase the sauna temperature. Would be nice great if facility could have temperature gage in the sauna and timer out of the sauna.
Workout area: 3/5 Not a lot of free weights right now, but I’m sure the facility will get more soon. Also need cardio machines.
Rope: 4.5/5 A lot of routes, but the wall seems a little short compared senderone LAX.
Boulder: 5/5 Great set!
Bathroom: 5/5 Men bathroom is spacious and clean.

Around the area: 5/5 I walked to in n out for a burger after...
