Their jewelry is beautiful, but the customer service is sub-par at best. The two brothers who own the place (Victor & John) are both great, as is their custom jewelry designer (Chris), but I am consistently disappointed by the female staff members. I am very rarely greeted by them when I enter the store. When leaving, I never hear a "thank you" or "have a nice day." The other day, I showed up ten minutes before closing to pick up my ring (which was resized); Chris had called me earlier to tell me it was ready, and he gave me their hours for the day. I was first ignored as I stood in the doorway, and then greeted by another woman with a stern "Sorry, we're closing" and told to come back another time. Another time, when looking at wedding bands, I mentioned that my engagement ring was designed by Chris, and we'd be interested in having him do our wedding bands as well. For some reason, she started to question me about my ring ("Are you sure it was designed here? He may have just selected it from our case"), as if she didn't believe me. They have some wonderful jewelry and great talent, but I often feel as though I'm not...
Read moreI brought my fifteen year old's watch to Mayfair after he accidentally dropped it. A small piece of trim had come loose on the face, so I had taken the back of the watch off and was able to remove it from beneath the crystal, however, I couldn't get the back to go back on. The store manager, Mr.Tony Franjieh, stopped what he was working on in the back to greet us (my 13 yo daughter and I) at the counter. I explained that the watch was a gift from my mother-in-law, to my son for his 13th birthday and had special, sentimental value. He kindly explained that he needed to use a pressure vice (special jeweler's tool I told my son was most likely needed, if it could be fixed at all). In literally a few seconds, Mr. F removed the pin in the band and used the vice to replace the backing. He was pleasant, caring and professional. He said, "All set." I thanked him and asked how much I owed him, and he said, "Nothing. Have a nice afternoon," and to "come back in when we needed to add a link" (as he grows). What a true GEM of a jewelry store is Mayfair Jewelers in...
Read moreI brought my $1800 Bulava watch (my gift to myself a few years back) into Mayfair (latham) JUST for a new battery, I was told it would take about 10 min. 30 minutes later their repair man Dave, said he will need to keep it longer, may need to IPOXY a piece. When I called the next day he said it was ready to be picked up. I asked what was BROKE on my watch that he needed to GLUE??? Part of the band was broken when he took it apart.. I demanded it go back to Bulava to be looked at. I had to call over 6 weeks later to check the status and DAVE said it was on its way. I asked what was done to it his reply " I don't know! they fixed it.. and charged us $180"... REALLY... you were going to give it back to me as if nothing was wrong with it glued and broken. Dishonest.. I will NEVER buy from Mayfair, nor have anything ever repaired...
