This is close by, so it's my go-to store. It's clean, they have workers in every dept who are present and a few who are really nice like the gentleman in the cold dairy aisle he is great!. The cold is good and keeps all fresh. It's a nice sized store. Newly updated floors and rearranged aisles. They have a new display of individual rolls, bagels, muffins, donuts, and desserts what're great. Nice fresh bread section there, in addition to the separate standard bread aisle. Huge plus is the great music they play you can sing and dance as you shop. However the meat is hit or miss. Sometimes really good, sometimes so-so. Bad idea that they did away with the separate butcher meat case. Sometimes chop meat was good, and other times it was tough and brown in the middle and not fresh it smelled. The fish smells bad, and shrimp tasted like bleach cleaner. It's not fresh and previously frozen. Deli has a nice selection of salads that mostly look fresh. Terrible idea to have a lot of presliced cold cuts left out, who wouldn't want fresh sliced cold cuts? they go bad fast. Watch expiration dates they have some expired items. Overall, this is the best one in the area but not great. Others are dirty, smaller, and rotten food. Even larger ones like key food I traveled further to was really disappointing, gross, and nothing like the ones in the city boroughs...
Read moreGooglemaps has a chart that shows when Foodtown is busiest, and when it is emptiest. I recommend going when it is emptiest -- within an hour or two of closing. Closes 10 PM on Sunday, 11 PM the other days.
Update: A sunny, cool October Saturday afternoon. For the present 3 PM to 4 PM slot, Googlemaps said FoodTown is "Not Too Busy," and less-busy than average. So I went there, and it really was "not too busy." It was very pleasant. I don't know how Googlemaps keeps up to date on instantaneous conditions inside the store, but the system has been accurate for me.
A year ago, "E" wrote: "Staff friendly, very over priced, aisles very tight." I disagree. "Overpriced" is the KeyFood at Ocean Ave and Sunrise Hwy, but their aisles are super-wide if you're claustraphobic. "Tight aisles" is the King Kullen at Peninsula Blvd and Rockaway Ave, too uncomfortable for me to go there a second time, so I can't say if they're beneficial...
