I’ve been visiting this plaza since I was a small child. In fact I was lost for the first time in life walking away from my mom in WOOLWORTHS lol. This is my first memory there. I’ve been there with my parents, grandparents and now I take my kids and niece and nephew here. I visit this plaza every year for the annual auto show, sometimes showing my own cars I custom build and to see everyone else’s gorgeous customs. This plaza has a place in history as far as I’m concerned and has undergone many updates over time, always improving. This plaza is not going anywhere as many plazas these days are disappearing this one is growing. On a side note Woolworths was an original store that has changed hands and names many times since it’s closing, but was the largest most powerful store in its day. Mr. Woolworth developer this store and a lot of our city. He turned his stores to a huge chain and later started Marine Midland Bank and also built the Marine Midland Tower, our largest tallest building in the city of Buffalo. However this has also changed hands snd names many times. Marine Midland becoming HSBC then key Bank. And woolworths becomes Fay’s then Eckerd, then bought by Rite aid. Thanks...
Read moreOur poor waitress was working with a bum knee, having torn her meniscus. That's very painful as I'd had same issue some yrs ago. As for the food, my dad has trouble eating alot of foods. He doesn't have biting/tearing strength as he used to. I had the chicken soup. It was actually homemade. And a but bland so that others with food issues of spice could eat it easier. I added salt and pepper. It could've been more robust as putting in more that a few 'shards' more of chicken and carrots and eggs noodles. The meatloaf was very thin, Dad said it was ok. Nothing to write home about. Mashed taters looked ok but the meal itself wasn't very appealing to the eye. Wasn't much grVey on the meat and bread. I'd asked for not so much, but 'not enough' was what he got. Also no restaurant gives a half order which would be the proper amount of a meal especially for a 92 yr old. The staff was polite. We weren't asked if we needed more beverages. And didn't come back to ask if we wanted dessert. We didn't want any, but they didn't know that, and it wasn't how I cared for my customers when I waitresses. All over I'd give it a...
Read moreAs a child growing up in Elma NY back in the early 1970's my parents taking me on a trip to the Southgate Plaza was quite comparable to visiting Disney World in Florida (DISCLAIMER: I have never ACTUALLY been to Disney World, but my description of tbe experience is what I would percieve such a trip to be like.) This was WAY before the Galleria Mall, the McKinley Mall, and just after the Eastern Hills Mall opened up. In fact, the old Thruway Mall was still functioning at Walden and Harlem during this time. But the Southgate was closer to Elma because we could just drive down Route 16 to get there directly. It's not exactly a BAD place now, but it could use some improvement. The Market in the Square is an absolutely TERRIBLE grocery store! Dirty, outdated, and very uncaring attitudes by associates towards customers who pay their salaries via purchases. I would like to see a very BIG Dash's Market move in there. As far as the rest of the plaza goes, most of the small shops are just fine. Also the home of the Southtown's military...
