NOISY AND CHAOTIC: The Noisiest library I've ever been to! During the school year at 3pm, 30-40 Wright Elementary kids wreak havoc on the library by screaming, yelling, running, fighting inside and outside. Only when it turns into a full-blown 3-ring circus do librarians do anything, but only down to general loudness. All other times adults' general loud conversation, laughing and cell-phone chatter is openly tolerated by current Manager Kathy Doss and all Staff. Various Librarians will even be known to regularly speak loudly to patrons when not necessary. Furthermore, kids often don't read, study or do anything educational there. The kids make noises while gaming and the WIFI is totally bogged-down from every computer running video and games. Its merely a playground for Videogaming and horseplay. Just watch the eyes roll in the Manager's face when you complain about the noise and disruption, especially when they initiate it! The Manager has also stated, "well this is just like any other (Redneck) library in the Midwest." Therefore the noise is perfectly OK. Lets just forget its really a =LIBRARY= so that Staff dont ever have to bother maintaining library-decorum. Judging by the libraries' design, you would think it was a Day-Care Facility! It has an entire open section adjacent to the study area dedicated to infants, toddlers, and preschool with no walls separating them! So you know that the design and approval for full noise tolerance goes to the very top posts of the library administration. Why do you suppose this is? Could it have something to do with money? I believe the library gets money for "head-counts" and usage, even if its a screaming kid, neglectful parents, or loud "trash." And the more heads, the more positions are needed, and all the more money goes to the top of the library! They are unashamed at how they go about collecting library funds!
I have also spent much time at the Central, Martin and Hardesty libraries and its much quieter there and cell phone conversations are not...
Read moreThe Library Rules! I started at another branch in Tulsa as an infant crawling around and pulling books off the shelves.
Now I take my kids to Brookside often to get books as well as the events like Lego, crafts and so much more.
My printer died, as well as my parents. I have given up buying a new one with the cost of paper, ink, etc. Going here is great, its 10 cents a page for black and white. You don't need an app, or to use their WiFi from your cell phone. You don't need a library card if doing it from your phone. Scan a QR code, go to the site, upload, and then go stick in your coins or cash and out comes your printing. You can also do it from the supplied computers but will need a library card. I have done this method as well with seven large documents and it worked fine.
I also scanned documents to my email today for free. It worked like a champ and was fast.
I will continue on doing paperwork here. It costs less than the nearby office stores (12 cents a B&W page and 5 cents/page to scan). The staff here has always been nice and helpful.
I cant wait for the new Brookside library to open in a few months. My kids will be...
