In short, really good food, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with serious allergies, or anyone who prefers a calm dining experience.
We've eaten in a handful of times, and we love the food! However, you tend to roll the dice on customer service. For the most part they are very helpful and pleasant, but on one occasion we were around when it wasn't terribly busy and our server kept forgetting requests. We brush off little mistakes because we know how it is in the service industry, but one of the things she forgot was to keep the dairy from an omelette because of some severe allergies. We got the dish, and since she'd been absentminded about a couple other things, checked it just to be sure - and sure enough, the entire inside was coated in cheese. It took forever to get her back and quietly explained the issue, and she just huffed and took it away.
On another occasion, one of the first times I'd gone, the minute we walked in we could hear a woman talk-shouting at a pair of elderly women. She was across the room, but we could hear everything she said, and the older ladies looked supremely uncomfortable. It was like listening to a drill sergeant berating a couple civilians about what Jesus Christ meant in her life and what he SHOULD mean to EVERYONE else. The one-sided conversation was very religiously aggressive, and it was clear everyone present had to be party to it. It only stopped when the elderly women fled the restaurant. I had thought the entire time that this was just another customer who was very familiar with methamphetamine that everyone else was trying to appease out of self-preservation - turns out she was either a very high ranking employee or the owner.
This same woman when we went to eat another time chose very tastefully, during checkout, to talk disparagingly about no good very bad millennials while we, a couple of millennials, were paying money for the umpteenth time to dine at her restaurant. Weirdly enough, that was the last time we decided to go.
5/5 if you're looking for dinner and a show and don't mind upper management...
Read moreMy wife and I both were thinking about a salad today for lunch. A salad with crispy chicken. And not a fast-food franchise salad. I wanted to go somewhere that had friendly service. Where the employees and the owner cares about the quality of the food that they set in front of their customers. The reviews for Brookside Diner had the rating. 4.5 stars on Google and Yelp. That is a strong indicator of a solid diner. Pictures of Brookside Diner’s breakfasts and chicken fried steak seem to dominate as diners’ favorites. The breakfast menu and the pictures of the breakfast plates will get me back in the door.
Inside the restaurant is clean and comfortable. The service is prompt. The employees are very friendly. The owner made a tour of the dining area, checking on everyone. He also owns Yummy Subs and More in Broken Arrow, which offers excellent daily special sandwiches. Try it if you haven’t
Our salad orders were the Chicken Avocado and the Brookside Chicken. Both with the breaded fried chicken breast. These are generous plates of food. A pile of salad vegetables and two large breasts sliced up in bite sized pieces. The chicken covers the plate of salad. A wide selection of your favorite house made dressings are available. Creamy Italian for my wife’s Chicken Avocado and my favorite, Thousand Island for the Brookside Chicken. Check the pictures.
Construction on Peoria has shifted to the east side of the street, making the access to Brookside Diner much easier than it has been for months.
Enjoyable meals,...
Read moreI live right around the corner, so I used to stop in this diner once a week when I first moved to the area… I stopped going because it seems like when the owner is not there that most of the staff (not everyone, but most) really just forget how to do their job. There is one specific waitress who consistently does weird things like put her hands in my food right in front of me. Possibly to grab something off of the food, but either way off putting from food service standards. Last time she buttered my pancakes before bringing them out, which just set off alarm bells for a distrusting person like myself (I order essentially the same thing every time so I am very aware of how it should be presented). The other part is the kitchen…. It doesn’t seem to matter how I order things, they come out how the kitchen staff feels like making it. I like my hash browns crispy, have asked for it on multiple occasions, but kitchen staff has never deviated from how they cook the hash browns… that issue is consistent with eggs easy through hard as well. This place has a ton of potential… there are some amazing staff members there… there’s just too many people skating by on the bare minimum of competency there, and the good ones suffer for it. The overall restaurant suffers for it. You won’t see my...
