Looking back at this it still just BURNS me after 5 years. Every Orangetheory Fitness I see makes my skin crawl. The thing that probably bums me out the most is the zero wiggle room and the use of this review to share their policies with everyone as if, again, standing behind rigid corporate policy makes treating people poorly ok.
All they care about is your money. They were perfectly happy to upgrade my membership and change the date so that I could pay them more. But when I went I forgot to cancel because I went to get married and on my honeymoon, I went a full month without attending one class. I sent them a nice note saying thank you and while I did enjoy the workouts it was more than I could afford to begin with, I would have to cancel my membership. I figured since I paid for a whole month where I clearly hadn't used the services, they would be able to cancel... nope. Apparently, I have to pay for yet another FULL month. The only response I got was "I'm sorry, company policy." There is no wiggle room there? You can clearly see that I hadn't been there for a month. And yet I have to come in and sign a formal paper to officially cancel when I'm already feeling like you've taken advantage of me???? Not only did I have to go in and sign a paper to the woman who signed me up and happily talked me into a membership she could see I couldn't afford... I had to go back in and have her stone cold faced tell me "there is nothing I can do." They don't care about you. If you're cool with that and if you're cool with giving a cold hearted corporate bully your hard earned cash... go for it.
Oh and look and the canned response. These people...
Read morejoining was one of the best decisions i've made this year. the price is heavy, but worth it. i'm a gym newbie. i've never had to work out when i was younger because i was naturally thin and i was very active in high school and college. then bam, adult life hit, i gained more weight than i ever thought i would, and i had no idea what to do to get rid of it. enter OTF.
this isn't a traditional gym; it's a studio with structured classes. that's exactly what i needed. every class has different workouts and routines and every coach is very helpful in showing you what to do and how to push yourself. if you have physical issues, there are always optional forms. everyone there is working on themselves, and they're all super friendly if you happen to get into small talk during the class. the studio is super clean and despite only having three sections - treadmills, rowers, and a "weight room" with free weights - the class template always gives you a nice full body workout.
i started in may and from going 1-2x a week, some of the staff have remembered my name :') and i've lost 20 lbs. despite not being super social, it has still been such a welcoming community that i'm happy to have joined. i highly recommend checking it out especially if you're getting...
Read moreCoaches here are awesome, but I won’t be back. This gym recently changed ownership and is now a “premier” location. My home studio is Vacaville so I’m charged an extra $10 per class when I attend a class in Vallejo (even though the difference in membership price is only $5 per class). Feels like a price gouge. Maybe it’s an intentional disincentive to keep members of other local OTF gyms from attending.
The reason I was given by the studio employee was the higher income in Vallejo. Curious to know the source of their data, because I’m seeing median wage stats of $77k/ year in Vacaville vs $56k/ year in Vallejo from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Maybe this is what the owner needs to charge to meet their bottom line, and that they truly believe they are providing a premium service. If that’s the case they should just say “we’re awesome and believe we’re worth 30% more”. Don’t feed people garbage about a higher price due to higher income in the local area.
Before leaving this review, I emailed the studio to discuss the issue and received no response. I also asked the studio employee to waive the $10 just today (since I did not know I would be charged extra) and he said he would get in trouble if he did — which was probably bs but I...
