This is one of six memorials to Lincoln in the district, this one having the distinction of being the oldest existing memorial to Lincoln in the country. This statue was paid for by the residents of DC, purportedly to convey their loyalty to the union and decrease the chances of retribution for the president being slain in their town. The largest amount of funding was provided by the owner of Ford’s theatre. The chosen sculptor was reported to be a friend of Lincoln’s, and had been present in Ford’s theatre on the night of the assassination. The statue was taken down and placed in storage in the early 1900s as the larger memorial was in the works. Veterans groups complained and the statue was fixed and placed out again. In 2006, the statue was moved again to its...

The Abraham Lincoln Memorial is a must-visit in Washington, D.C., offering a mix of history, beauty, and reflection. The stunning design resembles a Greek temple, with 36 columns representing the states at the time of Lincoln’s passing. The seated statue of Lincoln is awe-inspiring, and his famous speeches engraved on the walls add depth to the visit.

The views from the steps are incredible—you can see the Reflecting Pool and the Washington Monument perfectly aligned. I visited in 2018, and the experience was unforgettable. It’s ideal for history lovers, photographers, or anyone looking for a meaningful spot.

Pro tip: Visit at sunset or at night to see it beautifully lit. Highly...
