This beautiful landmark memorializes the efforts of the famed doughboys of WW1 fame as well as their commander, Black Jack Pershing. This site shows the major fronts fought by the US, a huge statue of Pershing, a waterfall with a famous poem, and an absolutely stunning bronze relief called “A Soldier’s Journey” that shows multiple views of a soldier’s experience from an emotional leaving home to the tough fighting, being wounded and recovery, through returning home - it is stunning. Each and every day at 5 PM a musician and (ex)serviceman comes out and plays Taps complete with greatcoat and WW1 helmet in front of the US flag. Amazing. Read moreIf you have just a moment while in the city, this is a much needed stop. I was so moved tears filled my eyes when discovering this place. I came across the poem on the wall first. It hit me so hard I had to sit and take a few moments of silence. Next I wandered to the other side of the wall. The mural is such a haunting piece of art that is so realistic.
