Terrible experience. Avoid if an unexperienced buyer. Unfriendly staff and not truthful, or helpful.
After entering the store and saying the normal greetings to the sales associate (SA) I proceeded to tell her I was in the market for either a blue or pink sapphire engagement ring, in a halo setting, and that I needed help trying to decide between the two colors and deciding which cut, either cushion or emerald. I primarily wanted to see which would look best with my complexion and narrow down the options to make the shopping process easier for my boyfriend, who has told me he is shopping for rings and wanted my input on what direction to go in.
There were no pink rings available for me to see but pink sapphire earrings. As she proceeded to pull out the earrings from the case the sales manager steps out from the back, I guess to "supervisor", I tell her hello and she just stares at me. She doesn't say "hi", "hello", or even smile, she just stares at me with her arms crossed, that is super weird.
I decided to ignore the awkwardness and start to dive into asking the SA about the quality of the sapphire she had pulled and stated, "I don't like that it has 'windowing'" which means see-thru (a sign that the cut is bad or that the gem is just too thin for that particular shape) and she then tells me that a gem being see thru means its "eye clear" and a sign of good quality, which is wrong. Eye clear denotes that a gemstone is free of visible inclusions(imperfections) from the naked eye, which is not always a good thing in gems because it can denote they are synthetic, because they are too perfect.
After receiving this false info, I look back at the sales manager to see if she'll correct her, and she doesn't. My question about whether they sold natural or synthetic gems was also not satisfactory, when I asked the SA, she hesitated. After this I decided it was time to leave the store and said my goodbyes. This is not the...
Read moreI've purchased four pieces of jewelry from the 1400 F St location of Charles Schwartz & son, an engagement ring, two wedding bands, and diamond earrings. I've been fortunate enough to work with Mark every time I've visited. He has been so professional, so friendly and so incredibly knowledgeable about every piece they have. He makes jewelry shopping fun and puts you at ease as soon as you sit down. Buying an engagment ring was extremely important and intimidating. Mark immediately put to rest all of my fears and took the time to understand what I was looking for. Furthermore, he ably handled all of our sizing needs and has cleaned my (now wifes') engagement ring three times, free of charge. I will never look anywhere else for jewelry, Charles Schwartz' variety and working with Mark has made me a...
