My wife and I did the Dark Side of Dupont tour with Dan King as our guide. I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed this tour! Dan made the history very interesting. He was funny, informative, and engrossing in his story-telling. It was a decent walk and nearly two hours, on top of being seriously hot and humid out, and I still greatly enjoyed the tour. We learned a lot about the background of Dupont, and a bunch about assassination attempts, scandals, bombings, and more. A good time for those who are interested in that sort of thing. I have already recommended it to friends and would do so again.

I had a fantastic tour with Emilia. She was super knowledgeable of the area and that made all the difference. I enjoyed it very much. The website describes it well, you basically walk around all the monuments and have a nice explanation about each of them. It ends at Lincoln Memorial, a big highlight. Other than the usual historic explanations you may also hear some of the possible theories regarding one thing or another, which I thought added a lot of fun to the tour. I did it on a Monday evening and we had some rain in the first few minutes - Highly recommend it!

Did the Monuments and Moonlight tour with Eli last night. He had his work cut out for him with 4th of July fencing all along the mall but he navigated us neatly through to the sights. Our two hours went by swiftly and we thoroughly enjoyed the views and historical insights he offered. The pace was comfortable and free time was allotted to explore and take pics at each location. The only caveat is that there is traffic noise (car and air) as well as sirens, etc that may make hearing difficult. If you are in a big group, stay close to the guide.

UPDATED DECEMBER 2021 - THE BEST. After visiting for Easter weekend 2019, I was eager to return for more tours during my Christmas 2021 trip. This tour company is truly THE BEST. I was lucky enough to join 2 tours with Becca - the Arlington National Cemetery Tour and the National Mall and Tidal Basin Tour, as well as 2 tours with Eli - the Downtown Holiday Lights and History Tour and the Ghosts of Georgetown Tour. While the Downtown Holiday Lights and History Tour was a bit lighter on history, the 3 other tours were deep dives. Becca and Eli are both fantastic storytellers. Becca told me that she is a historian and contributes to tour development, and boy, do her knowledge and enthusiasm show. I wish I could have taken even more tours with them for the 5 days that I was in DC, but several of their group tours were cancelled due to the holidays, which is understandable. They try to promptly communicate tour changes. If you're in DC and like history and culture, sign up with them. They're great storytellers who have put a huge amount of effort into creating highly informative and entertaining tours.

APRIL 2019 - While visiting Washington, DC, I went on 2 Free Tours by Foot this Saturday - the Historic Georgetown tour with Erin and the Lincoln Assassination tour with Boglarka. Erin is a school teacher and tour guide. Boglarka is a full-time tour guide. Both women were excellent tour guides. They were much more energetic, more insightful, and funnier than a more expensive tour guide I used Friday night.

On Friday night, I arrived in DC too late to join a group tour, so I went on a small private tour that included car service. This private tour was fine and very convenient, but nothing special, especially for the price. On Saturday, my schedule allowed me to fit in 2 Free Tours by Foot, and those are the tours I loved and will remember for years to come.

I will seek out Free Tours by Foot the next time I'm in DC or in any of the other cities they cover. The tour guides are excellent. You get a little exercise by walking. And you pay what you feel is fair. The tour guides don't pressure you to over-pay. But they're so good, you'll want to thank them and pay for their time. Book early and go!! Highly...

Was well worth the money; our tour guide had many interesting stories about each place visited. I would recommend taking this tour and then returning after dark. Cons: Temperature was above 90° that made the 4 hour tour tiring so you may want to take 2 - 2 hour tours on different days. The walk to return to the starting point was almost as long as the tour itself so disance listed is almost double. Parking is almost non-existent and traffic is heavy so public transportation should be considered when planning your visit as it may be a factor in where you stay (we stayed in Alexandria about 10 minutes from the closest metro station 20 min ride for about one-third of the price of staying closer). Pros: Our tour guide was great! He ( Jerrod- I hope I spelled his name correctly) told stories that he must have spent an enormous amount of time memorising and rehearsing that gave me a completely new perspective on what I was seeing. Since there was so much to see we had to keep moving but wasn't rushed ( I noticed that some of the other groups going through at a much faster pace and looked like they was being herded through like cattle). Walking speed was reasonable and children was able to keep up ( may not be doable for children under approx 6). Our tour guide was a great source of information about other things to see and do along with the best times to go and you will find the information alone is worth paying for. Summary: This tour was entertaining and the walking though long able to be done by most that are in good shape. I would recommend considering breaking the tour into separate days during extreme weather conditions. Places to purchase drinks and snacks are fairly plentiful but expensive so you may want to take something to drink with you that is easily carried or stored in a small backpack for convenience. I highly recommend returning again after dark (we went after 10pm and traffic was light and...

I am the type of person who is always wondering if the people I see on vacation are having more fun than I. I always assume I am missing out on something that others are doing. This is the first time I didn't worry. In fact, I felt sorry for the people who chose to take a different tour around D.C. I was fortunate enough to book three tours: D.C. Memorials with Carolyn Muraskin, Lincoln's Assassination with Ricky Bobby, and Arlington National Cemetery with Erin Dunn. On they day of the tour, I was sent an email reminding me where to go along with a picture of what the place looked like. There was absolutely no concerns of becoming lost trying to find the meeting point. The number of people touring was limited making it feel intimate. Keep in mind I was traveling with my ten year old son, thirteen year old daughter, and two additional adults. There was never a moment when any of us were bored. I am not sure who learned more my children or me. Not only were these three tours informative, each guide was able to provide unfamiliar stories about famous people in and around Washington. All three guides were interesting and passionate about the tours. There were stories in each tour that connected to all three places we toured. In addition they made sure we were not congested with other tourists, directed us to the nearest metro, and recommended fun places to dine. I honestly can't say enough about this program. I do know I will never tour a city without Free...
