Holyland USA in Waterbury, CT, a place that has always held a special fascination for me, has undergone a significant transformation. While it once stood as a dilapidated space, it has been restored to some extent, shedding its worn-down appearance. One of the most notable changes is the addition of a new lit cross, which continues to glow high above downtown Waterbury, serving as an iconic beacon. Additionally, the removal of overgrown brush and trees has opened up the space, revealing its hidden beauty. Having visited Holyland USA at various stages of my life, I've witnessed its evolution firsthand. Each visit offers a unique perspective, and I'm continually amazed by its enduring charm and significance. Whether you're drawn to its religious symbolism or simply intrigued by its history, Holyland USA is a place that invites exploration and contemplation. Cool little abandoned christian theme park in Waterbury. Pulling up I didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised at what I saw. It's cute, kind of like a kids play set, everything is small, but also eerie like a deserted crumbling town. Pretty good amount to see and take pictures of. Fantastic view of the city from the top near the giant cross. Didn't realize I was also there on good Friday, which made it more weird lol. Good little spot to check out with kids and adults alike, if you're in the need for something to do.

What an unusual piece of Americana. Apparently this was a big tourist draw in the 1950s and 60s. It tells the story of Jesus's life through architecture. It was closed in the 80s and reopened in 2019 but I don't think anything was done to update it. Currently it's an interesting relic of a bygone age. If you are interested in this sort of thing we found it highly interesting to walk through. Nature is reclaiming this museum and that adds value to the visit. In addition it has great views of Waterbury from the top.

The unique mixture of Americana and Catholic culture here is great for those interested in urban exploration or religious sites. During daylight hours, the park is open to the public — just be cautious of debris and overgrown foliage along the uneven pathways. Keep in mind, too, that you’ll have to contend with the Sun on clear days as there is little to no shade. The Holy Land sign, giant LED cross, and the panoramic view of Waterbury are the highlights here. You can see the whole park in an hour or less.

It was quite a nice visit during the daytime. Even though some reviews describe Holy Land USA as "creepy" (which made me hesitate to visit), once I got to the place, I found it mostly clean and well-kept. It was fun to identify biblical landmarks and we got a great view of Waterbury. There are a few parking spaces for visitors, and you do not have to call ahead to visit.

Description
Holy Land USA is an 18-acre theme park in Waterbury, Connecticut, inspired by selected passages from the Bible. It consists of a chapel, stations of the cross, and replicas of catacombs and Israelite villages constructed from cinder blocks, bathtubs, and other discarded materials.
