Tribute Tattoo Parlor — Attraction in Waterford Township

Services where not performed. I had a consultation with Matthew Hockaday in January 2021. I gave him an 80 dollar deposit for the drawing of a tattoo. I also gave him a 180 dollar deposit for my initial session. He scheduled me for May 14th. I called to confirm the appointment. I never got a call back until the day before. He cancelled on me. He asked if we could started on our 2nd scheduled session. I told him yes. Once again I called 3 days prior to the session to confirm. Matthew finally reached out the day before and asked to do the tattoo on the following day. I exclaimed that I had to work. This is why we scheduled the original dates to begin with. I expressed that I felt put off. I never got to see a rough copy of my tattoo. He was not responsive about my concern. I kindly asked for a refund. I made it very clear that there where no hard feelings. He never gave me any type of refund. He sent me a snarky text stating that he spent 7 hours drawing my tattoo. He was not going to not get paid for it. Well, I never saw the drawing. I don't know if he actually did it to vegin with, as he had ignored my calls and texts. In closing, Matthew stole $260 from me. I sure am glad that I didn't pay for the whole tattoo up front. Beware, his schedule is convenient for him. Not his loyal customers. PS I have 2 tattoos from him over the years. I've always been a follower....

UPDATE: 5/14/25 - I posted this review on 3/19/25, and 2 months later the owner has now replied making excuses and saying he called and texted me with no reply. Well, I also got NO REPLY from you for weeks (my final attempt at contact was 3/14, you called me on 3/27), so why would I want to give you my business? Also, you moving has zero to do with me; don’t have people replying to emails about setting up an appointment if you’re too busy and not working. Changing my review to 1 star because that response is absolutely absurd and extremely unprofessional.

I was extremely excited to schedule with Tribute, as I was referred by someone I trust. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to actually get anything scheduled. I sent my initial inquiry on 2/27, heard back the next day asking for some info, I replied same day. 3/7 comes along and I haven’t heard back, so I sent a follow-up. Someone eventually replied on 3/12, asking if anyone got back to me, and said they might be able to get me in the evening of 3/15; I replied same day (3/12) & asked for a price quote. I visited Tribute Tattoo Parlor Friday, December 22nd, '23. The staff were friendly and engaged in conversation during my visit. Their stations were clean and sanitary. And there is a very interesting collection of art decorations the walls. Although their shop is small, there is serious talent among the staff. "Hukk" was my artist. 2 weeks prior I gave him my idea. I get very nervous when I ask a tattoo artist to create an image for me due to previous bad experiences at other shops. "Hukk" surpassed my expectations and delivered a tattoo that was beyond my own idea. His original digital image was amazing. I was excited to see that image come to life as a tattoo but when the session was over, I felt very lucky to have his talent take this commission.
