Waukesha Civic Theatre — Attraction in Waukesha

We have enjoyed many shows over the last 3 years but tonight it went above and beyond in quality. Kinky Boots was SPECTACULAR and every role and touch was done beautifully. I have a slight hearing impairment and yet today the actors sang loud and clear all through the show. I so appreciate good actors who can pull this off. The entire cast was incredibly talented, and the music and staging rivaled shows I have seen in large cities. Cyndi Lauper wrote the music and lyrics, and she is brilliant. This theater has lots of parking and the ticket prices are easy on the pocket. There are refreshments for sale and if you have a few $$ to spend they are building a more intimate Black Box theater next to the main stage. This is going to be another big win for the theater crowd. Thank you for bringing this wonderful program to Waukesha. The two main actors, William Salinas and Caleb Joyner gave their all and the audience was all in for the entire production. We have been to several productions. My comments are not related to the productions but to the current lack of safety provided for patrons. We had tickets for Sister Act, went to the theater, and had to leave because they do not require masking and there isn't a way to socially distance. We sat in our seats for about ten minutes and realized that over half of the audience wasn't masked. Some of the employees were not masked either. So we chose to leave. It was disappointing to have to make that choice. Omicron is sweeping the country atm and our area hospitals are overwhelmed and considering turning away patients daily. How irresponsible of the theater to not put Covid restrictions in place. What a waste of money and time for us. The ACT program for kids is fantastic. My daughter has been in theater at school and two other local theater training groups in the area. This program was far above what the others offered. I give a lot of credit to the directors Shannon Messplay and Gwen Ter Haar for molding kids into true actors and performance singers. There is a small charge,... (and it is small in comparison to what other theater groups try to charge), but it is well worth the money. I am looking forward to the next production - they are taking on Les Mis for April 2020!!
