Antiques and Uniques on Main — Local services in Waukesha

My husband & I love to shop small & local. We spent a couple of hours in downtown Waukesha & stopped at Antiques & Uniques as we often do. My husband was drinking a smoothie & was asked upon arrival to leave it at the desk. Understandable. He opted to finish it outside then meet me inside to shop together. When he returned, he was stopped again & told he had to leave his bag at the desk. His “bag” is equivalent to a Fanny Pack, strapped across his back, which contains his wallet, phone & personal items. He wasn’t comfortable leaving that at the front desk. As he looked around, other patrons had bags, purses & totes. Why HIM? We have always had personal bags on us when we’ve shopped in the past without harassment. The clerk was very rude & persistent that he leaves. My husband left & had to call me, informing me he wasn’t coming in. I had words with the clerk when I left. Again, he was very rude. I pointed out several shoppers who were carrying bags & large totes. His response was “they’re purses, that’s ok” But… a small Fanny Pack isn’t??? I accused him of profiling & discrimination. What else could it be? Who would be comfortable leaving their bag (containing money, credit cards, phone & personal items) with a stranger? Needless to say, we will never shop...

One of the best antique stores in Waukesha as far as the items and selection. However, like others, I've noticed rude treatment and weird behavior from employees, for seemingly no reason... I come here with my kids sometimes. Theyre polite, well-behaved, and they are careful while looking around. On multiple occasions, I've felt unwelcome when I go with my kids (who LOVE this antique store.) It's been kind of upsetting that the past 3 times Ive come here- we've received dirty looks, been stared at/watched while shopping, and just been treated like we're bothering them for being there or something. I'm sorry, but that's just not a good feeling and that's not a welcoming environment. Who wants to shop like that?

I really like this store, so someone should tell the employees to stop discriminating and...

Such a GREAT place to shop for interesting vintage items. We shop here often. I collect quite a few different items, I found them all here and more!!! Great selection of jewelry, antiques, collectibles, mid-century modern, vintage, retro….you won’t be disappointed. My Husband collects matchbox cars, beer memorabilia & sports collectibles. We both come home with bags of goodies each time we shop. We like supporting small businesses and spend the day downtown Waukesha. We hit one of the hidden gem restaurants, then we shop this HUGE antique mall and finish with dessert…ice cream or chocolates at the chocolate store, bakery at Periwinkle’s……...lots of great options...
