Showed up 10 minutes before tee time with everything ready. The cashier (bobg) took over 20 minutes to check in the 2 guests in front of us, then had to the nerve to tell us that we were late for our tee time, and almost didn't let us play. He repeatedly said that as I argued with him how long he is taking, and that there is a line of 8 people behind me, almost out the door. Again, it took this cashier (bobg) more than 15 minutes just to check us in with constant complaining that we were late! In addition to his frustration, he over charged me for the round, balls, and cart. While we were waiting for the 4 some in front of us to go, the other cashier/worker came out and yelled at us that we haven't started our tee time (now 30min past) and stood over us watching inside the tee box until we finished our drive on hole 1. Absolutely rude and inconsiderate.
Next, we finished hole 9 and had some time before we started hole 10 because the group in front of us. Came in for some refreshments, and a black couple (They look new to golf) walks in for their 9 hole tee time. This same cashier (bobg) laughs and tells them they cant play here and that they should go to Hansen, which is arguably a much worse course. Once they left, he turned to us and said "When can I just shoot them". The 5 people in line turned around and look at each other in disbelief that this actually just said, loud and clear. I took a picture of the receipt for a time, date, and clerk marker. Bobg should not be allowed to work any golf course, or his coworker for being...
Read moreThis is the closest course to my house and I'm sad that the play here is so slow. Everytime I go I get stuck behind a group of old ladies or college bros. 3 hour long 9s and 6 hour long rounds. The signs at the turn give guidelines for pace of play, but that is the only encouragement to speed up play.
I suggest adding a pace clock on the 5th and 13th tees that say "if the time on this clock is after your original start time you need to pick up the pace"
The staff is also slow. Lines frequently form in the tiny little pro shop as golfers check in. Their card machine is partially to blame, seems slower than most places.
The clubhouse is nothing special. I wouldn't get a beer here after a round.
The course itself is actually pretty well maintained, even with the exceptionally wet year we have had.
I am looking forward to trying it again during the fall months when it isnt so jammed packed with slow foursomes that cant and wont let you...
Read moreCurrie is a decidedly average municipal course, which would be fine if there weren't so many other above-average options in the County Parks system. A healthy chunk of the front nine is within earshot of the freeway, while the back is along Hwy. 100, so if you're looking for a peaceful reprieve from the sounds of the city, this isn't it. Drainage near the end of both nines is a problem. And some of the holes feel a little ill-designed, like the up-a-sledding-hill 18th and the potato-chip 15th, a dogleg right that calls for a fade but produces side-hill lies for even good shots as the hole is built into the side of a hill, making the fairway resemble the edible item mentioned. That said, the 8th and 16th are nice downhill par-3s and the course usually has short wait times. For just as much of a challenge with better scenery, though, consider Dretzka, Oakwood...
