Easily one of the greatest places ever in Chicago and no doubt worth full 5 stars!
I went through the silver package experience that included salt room, sauna, steam room, and beer soak. Beverages are provided throughout the experience and transitions from one activity/room to other are smooth. Great experience overall!
Salt room: from my perspective, this is just a room with lots of salt in it. I haven't done my own due diligence on what does it do to you, but perhaps it has some health benefits as introduced during the visit. I liked it as a space to disconnect and mentally prepare to absorb the rest of the experience.
Sauna: I am from Finland and we love our saunas. This sauna is the first and only sauna in North America that I have seen done right! It is not one of the sad dry saunas implemented in every other place nor have some horrible list of rules and regulations imposed on you like many places that claim to have a sauna do. You just go there, do what you want and relax. As a bonus, you can be chugging down a beer while at it just like you'd do back in Finland. The room gets to nice and toasty 70 - 80 Celsius or so. I repeat, THIS IS A SAUNA DONE RIGHT!
Steam room: this one is the steamiest of steam rooms I've ever seen anywhere. It is so steamy in fact that for me it is difficult to stay too long in this room. However, it does feel very nice to have a cold shower running while the room is steamy as hell.
Beer soak: a tub full of mystery liquid (likely involving some beer at least!) to soak in. Nice peaceful room and very toasty bath! They provide you with a little snack board here (one I got had grapes, watermelon, cheese, and tomatoes) and it's definitely a nice spot to just chill and enjoy the soak. Wooden tubs they got look and feel awesome.
Again, this is very nice experience as it is and easily worth a shot for anyone! I am planning to come back one day and hope this place succeeds and thrives.
I am not a spa or beer soak business professional, but if the owner of this shop reads these reviews, my recommendations to make this experience even greater would be:
Add some kind of timer to the rooms that gives a peaceful notification when it is time to move onto next experience. On average I think people would perceive it as a nicer way of letting you know it is time to roll than by having a person knocking on the do.
It is very nice you give Fiji water out here but Fiji brand clashes with the style of experience you provide. Icelandic Glacial or Voss would be more in sync with your brand. Maybe even "Just Water"-brand would work to play with natural/environmental theme plus when it comes in a carton-type of box it'd alleviate some PBA averse person's concerns in that toasty lovely sauna that you got in case you have that kind of customers.
Add similar music to salt room as there is during the beer soak.
Swap the cheese for something more neutral, maybe gouda as it is the most popular one in Germany and would play well with beer soak (I think!).
Wood pints that the beer comes in are awesome looking, no doubt, but bet they are pain to clean and deal with, plus it adds some woody scent while sipping that is bit weird. People of ancient era probably had similar experience but today I am unsure if it adds value to this business. I would probably phase out wood pints in the experience but keep selling it as merch for people to buy one or two to bring home. Instead, a frosty can or bottle of beer in sauna is just heavenly. Warsteiner would be very on point with your brand but something simple like Heineken...
I had purchased the Couples Platinum package for both my fiancé and I visited 1/6/23. We were having a great time and experience until it was time for our massages. We were asked to pick a therapist and then went off into our separate rooms which I thought was weird since it was supposed to be a couples massage. My therapist was Jess and she had initially asked me what areas I would like for her to focus on and went on to explain what her method is. Once we began I noticed she was working over the sheet which was already a little stiff and not the best against my skin. I thought at some point she would remove them or move them out of the way but she didn’t. What I got was barely a massage no aromatherapy and very light touch except for when she was working the pressure into my glutes. I’ve been in the spa business for over 12 years and can tell when someone is inexperienced this was just not what I was expecting. Once she finished the “massage” she came back in with a face mask that she applied and I asked her what kind of mask it was she then said “a beer mask I’m not sure what’s in it though” and then started to talk about it like she was making things up to make it sound good. That just made me even more uncomfortable. She came back in to remove the mask and I got dressed and waited for my fiancé to finish. I assumed we were going to be guided to the showers since we soaked in the beer or whatever and had stuff all over us but that wasn’t the case we had to find our way back to the lockers downstairs got dressed and left. My fiancé told me all about his massage experience and it seemed like the gentleman who was his therapist seemed to be a better fit. He provided aromatherapy options, applied oils and didn’t just work over the sheet the whole time. He was relaxed and had no complaints he even said that the room he was in had two beds so I’m confused as to why we were separated to begin with. My suggestion would be to make sure your providers are on the same page and can provide the same great experience for your guests. I’m not saying they need to do same exact thing but when it’s way too different it can make for a...
Read moreI first stumbled upon this place a lil over two years ago, bought the whole kit and caboodle sampling all the rooms. The gem was really the massage therapist, Jessica fixed my back pain, and knee troubles. I had since recommended many locals to the area to try her. I've gone back to her anytime I had something new. However, now I must rescind my previous compliment. Im not sure if the owner was just short with me bc I wasn't getting other services, but if I didn't interrupt his nap, he seemed short and rude like he didn't want to be bothered. But she was worth it. I have a difficult schedule sometimes and she was able to work with me to do a 9am appointment, however the owner didn't show up to open the spa. I was upset. The massage therapist apologized multiple times and even offered me 15min on my next service. I rescheduled for Sunday. When I arrived I had hoped to find him at least apologetic about not showing up to the last appointment or say something about extending my service. Nothing, just left me in the lobby waiting. Before she finished the massage he knocked on the door to say times up. As I walked out the room after getting dressed Jessica was there with a cup of water, this is where she'll usually take 1-3 mins to discuss what she found, how she fixed it and what routines I should now implement to rebalance. He rudely interrupted us to tell her she needed to go bc other people are waiting. She only gave me 10 extra mins instead of the 15. How did he already have people waiting if my appointment wasn't due to end till five mins after? I wonder how often he double books like that and rushes people through an assembly line and less the holistic inclined business. I reached out to her to inform her my disappointment with the situation, but get this, he fired her for taking her kids to a show instead of staying to work passed her scheduled time. So it wasn't that he was just rude to me he seems to abuse his staff as well.
So if you're looking for the amazing therapist,...
