Saw a show here last night. The actors did a pretty good job and honestly the show was all around pretty good for the price. Would go again based on the quality of the production -- that being said... Inside is pretty alarming. With some rather home-made feeling stadium seating, what could be considered an aisle/stairway, is so narrow and terrifying and cannot be to code or safe. The seats are rather dirty and literally on top of each other forcing you to share with your neighbors (just bite the bullet and remove a seat per row for comfort and safety). There are no clearly marked exits, which I believe the only exit is literally through the stage which feels both unsafe and really uncomfortable. The restroom is also 'on stage' which is weird and uncomfortable. I didn't see a smoke detector in the entirety of the building patrons were allowed in. No signage for the theater (or at least lit signage). No parking (or guidance on where to park). Leaving was terrifying as there is no outdoor lighting whatsoever so felt unsafe both for tripping hazards as well as dark and creepy and there was garbage around the entry. Again, kudos to the artistic staff and performers, they did a great job, however if I were to ever return to this space, there need to be some serious upgrades to the comfort and more importantly, safety of the venue. I cant figure out why they just didn't orient the space 90 degrees and do more black-box style and not have such a terrifying stadium seating situation -- this is a poor and inflexible use of space. Reorienting it would allow more accessible to people with disabilities, to the restrooms and only exit in case of an emergency. I truly am not confident this venue is up to any fire codes as of Feb 2025 and that is a...
Read moreFirst, this is a community theatre! I think it's important to remember that everyone is donating their time, talents, and passion and that your purchases here go toward keeping the venue open to foster art locally. I think they're doing an amazing thing trying to cast roles based on talent you can hear, and you can tell everyone involved is super supportive of each other. There are a few things about the building to be aware of if it's your first time going! Parking is very scarce at the building itself (there's like 6 spots) so if you have mobility issues and can't walk far, I suggest arriving 20 minutes+ early to secure one of those spots. Otherwise I just default to parking at the school that's about a 5 minute walk away. The bathroom inside the building is kind of a weird situation where it's a single unisex bathroom located just off of one of the stages, so if you can't hold it until intermission there's a possibility you'll have to cross through an active performing space to use the facilities. Everyone knows it's kind of a funky set up, and no one judges if you have to, but it is something that I think is important to know going in, so you don't accidentally chug 60 oz before the show. Speaking of, they had very affordable refreshments and I thought it was awesome I could grab a water, soda, or snack, and further support local arts. This place has so much going for it and I hope lots of people give it a chance so it continues to be a much loved gem of...
Read moreI've now seen two shows put on at this playhouse, and I think both the theater and the company are tiny hidden gems in our local creative community.
Both productions (Cabaret and Into the Woods) left me floored by the quality of performance and production by the cast and crew in such a small space. Far beyond what I think most would reasonably expect, going in blind as I was.
The vocal performances for Into the Woods were delivered with emotion and conviction, and a handful neared perfection, possibly. Even the few maybe less experienced members of the cast still gave charming and fun performances, and the principals were exceptional.
Several in the audience, myself included, were moved to tears by some of the solos delivered by The Witch, Jack, and especially The Baker. And the two princes were hysterical.
Highly recommend any fan of musical theater giving this troupe a chance and enjoying a performance that will very likely surprise you, with an intimate theater experience brought to you by people who clearly care...
