Medeo European Food and Deli — Attraction in Westbrook

I really like this place. Looking through the selection of items and reading their labels, which were thankfully printed in multiple languages that included English, made me feel like I was stepping into a shop from their country of origin. The woman who was working spoke English, she was not 100% fluent, but I don't know enough about the many languages of the region she is from to be able to identify which country they are from. I meant to ask, but my daughter was being impatient and was trying to rush me out the door so I did not get to ask. The service was great and the tea selection was pleasantly different than what I have found at local grocery stores. We purchased quite a few different types of tea and I will definitely be shopping there...

What a charming and beautiful little shop. I love their candied fruit, malted beverages and seaweed salad. Things are priced perfectly, and they keep a wide variety of products. Books, ornate pots and pans, nesting dolls of every size, coffee and teas, a deli counter and a refrigerated section containing imported dairy and frozen treats. Many dry goods as well, it’s where I get my buckwheat grains. Towards the back is a discount shelf surrounded by beverages of all flavors and varieties, including preserved fruits and vegetables. This is "Russian store", where they sell "Russian" food: the food we accustomed to back in Russia. I drove 3 hours from North of Maine to get there, because there are no similar store anywhere closer. And I am very glad I did. I bought 4 sorts of fish preserves (salted, marinated, smocked fish), some bakery, and some conserves and milk products, Ceylon tea. Every thing was very fresh. Selection is huge. There are several sorts of "tvorog", for example. The one I bought was excellent. I will go there again. Service is very nice there too. They speak both Russian and English very well.
