A group of 5 of us decided to do the Harry Potter room and it went horribly. The first room was fine but the moment we got into the second room the door to the third room was open. Two of us went inside the third room and the attendant came in and apologized and said that her boss had left the door open and wasn't supposed to have done that. We had to figure out how to get a room open that we'd already been inside of (and explored). We got inside the third room and the fourth room without issue but the crystal they provide you wasn't charging. In the fourth room we noticed the chest was open. We were trying to figure it out when the game master once again came in the room to tell us that her boss had left that chest open and it shouldn't have been open. Then we had to work from there. We asked for a clue with 41 minutes left and after 4 minutes figured it out without a clue. Then we got a clue after we were beyond that point (that we no longer needed). Then we asked for a clue with 17 minutes left. The TV completely froze. We checked all 3 TVs in the room and they were all frozen. We couldn't get a clue because of this and once again the game master came into the room to apologize. At the end when we attempted to put the crystal where it belonged but it did nothing. Like I mentioned the crystal hadn't been charging. We asked for a clue at that point because it was the final step. Once again the TVs all froze so we couldn't get a clue and then the TV turned on and started the video that plays when you first enter the escape room. It looked like we got out in 40 seconds because the TV had restarted our time. It was just a cool looking room but it had too many issues and things weren't working the way they were supposed to. The game master apologized to us again and then gave us her two bosses phone numbers. She said "call them and they should be able to help you out". We stayed inside the building because we wanted to speak to a manager before leaving. The two bosses ignored our calls and forwarded us to voicemail. We tried calling with multiple phones because like I said there were 5 of us. We sent text messages but received no response. Conveniently, when the game master called they answered them and ironically they were both too occupied to help at the moment. I would give zero stars if I could but Google requires you to select one. There are several great escape rooms in Denver. I'd try ANY of them before going here. Do not waste your time! Save your money!! EDIT: Of course after complaining I'm getting a reply here. They're claiming the person working was bullied to the point of tears. It is not so farfetched to say "I'm not leaving until I speak with a member of management to rectify the situation". We left after we received the information while whoever replied to me is claiming we refused to leave. Nobody asked us to leave. They are acting like we were screaming at the game master. That is not the case. There were five of us and at no point did we scream or yell. Asking to speak to a manager after a horrible experience isn't ridiculous. The way an owner replies to a dissatisfied customer on Google after we were ignored for hours is distasteful. If there are cameras at this location you will see that nobody attacked a staff member. Give yourself zero stars for your lack of customer service or accepting the fact which is that you gave us a bad experience by not having the room set up properly. It wasn't one thing that was wrong, it was at least five things. As a human being accept when you are wrong and take accountability. You messed up, not me. The only thing deserving of zero stars is you and the way a member of management handles these situations and attacks their customers for speaking up about a very negative experience. Also, shame on you for not having a member of management available to assist the game master when this issue arose. There were no other customers in the business when this happened and I want to clarify that as the owner is lying rather than accepting fault for their...
Read moreWe had so many issues with this escape room. I booked a 2 person Groupon. Paid $39 for two tickets at $30 each ($60 total). Upon booking, I was surprised to learn about a mandatory 18% gratuity, 6% booking fee and my Groupon was covering only $57, not $60, so a mysterious $3 charge. Upon calling HD about this, they said the $3 charge was a "damage deposit" and they were unsure about whether or not this would be refunded after escaping the room. I'm not sure what $3 could even cover in terms of damage. I was ready to cancel my escape room plans at this point, but my Groupon was non-refundable since I already viewed the voucher. Thankfully, we invited some friends and HD was able to apply a good code to their escape room cost. In the end, we split the total costs between 4 people and the individual escape room cost per person amounted to around $21, which is close to what I thought I'd be paying when I originally purchased the Groupon. I still have a major issue with the mandatory 18% gratuity. This feels so "scummy" to me - giving someone a tip before we even receive an actual service?? This isn't right. If the owner wants their employees to be paid better, then just increase the escape room price to $35 per person and pay your employees better. Don't make it look cheap by advertising a $30 price, when in reality, it's $35. On the actual day of our booking, I received a call an hour before our booking time, asking if we could change our booking to 20 minutes later. We were out to dinner with friends and I didn't want to answer my phone. We had planned our evening around the 8:20 escape room time we booked, and as planned, showed up on time. They did not start our escape room until 28 minutes after our booking time. I'm pregnant and exhausted in the late evening, so this was really unfair. They did end up refunding 20% on our ticket price, but this didn't feel like it fully made up for the imposition. The escape room operator incorrectly set up one of the puzzles in the room for us. Some dimwits who went before us got a dynamite stick stuck in one of the holes. The operator did not notice this during setup. We kept commenting during the escape room that we thought this was wrong - but instead of correcting it, he just gave us a clue for how to do the puzzle. After receiving the clue, we knew it was indeed incorrect and then we told him more clearly that one of the dynamite sticks were stuck and he came in the room to fetch it out with some tape so we could continue on with the escape room. We escaped the Haunted Mineshaft room. It was pretty lackluster in terms of puzzles - they just weren't very "cool" and intriguing. The directional map puzzle was pretty confusing since all the directions were truly diagonal, and not up/down or right/left.
I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 star for the kindness the employees showed through...
Read moreLast weekend, we visited an escape room with a group of friends. We’ve tackled about five escape rooms before, and while we’ve had some close calls, we’ve managed to escape each time. However, my review isn’t focused on whether we escaped or not. What matters to me is the quality of the experience. If the equipment was faulty and some puzzles and locks seemed designed just for the room without proper markings or clarity, then it’s not a well-designed escape room in my opinion. We tried the Jurassic Park-themed room. Unfortunately, our experience was less enjoyable than expected. The music and sound effects were so loud that we struggled to hear the instructions and unlock clues, which led to us missing important details and becoming confused. Additionally, when we reached the second room, we faced difficulty finding the correct key due to several unrelated locks, which were not clearly marked. This caused us to waste time and become disoriented. We encountered a few technical issues during our session. The unlocking box failed to open even after we solved it, and we had only one flashlight for our group of five, which made it challenging to split into two teams effectively. As a result, we had to rely on our cell phones for light. Additionally, the blacklight flashlight's batteries were nearly depleted, making it very difficult to see the clues we needed. Moreover, two of my friends, who are sensitive to strobing and flashing lights, experienced migraines and headaches, and these conditions were not mentioned in the waiver or claims. Sadly they ended up suffering and feeling bad the rest of the weekend. After attempting multiple times to discuss improvements with the owners—including concerns about potential headaches and migraines, not just epileptic seizures, which should be mentioned in the waiver—I received no response. Despite sending two emails and making two phone calls (where I was told to just email and they would get back to me), I still haven’t heard back. I’m disappointed that I paid over $200 for a group of friends to have an unenjoyable experience and then suffer medical issues for the rest of the weekend. I wouldn’t recommend this place. Even though they have a Wizard/Harry Potter room, it’s not worth it if the puzzles and clues are broken and you’re unable to “escape the room.” I would highly recommend 303 Escape - Denver Escape Room this was our favorite escape...
