The Mill Event Venue — Attraction in Windsor

So the venue itself is gorgeous. The get ready house is really nice. The staff is super kind too. Unfortunately the communication fell super short on our wedding day and added a lot of unnecessary stress. We went with the Mill because of a last minute cancellation with our original venue and the nice price the Mill provides for last minute cancellations - also, because we really felt like the day of would go smoother with them.

We started the day off with the tables not being arranged the way we had agreed to and being one table short for our gift/welcome tables (I even provided a floor plan to our coordinator to make sure we were saying the same thing). It got worked out, but meant setup got rushed and stress got added pretty early in the day.

Before getting into the miscommunication - if you're doing a wedding at the Mill I would NOT recommend it for more than 125 - which may be pushing it if you don't have a head table. We had 150ish people and they had to tear down tables to have a space for a dance floor. Also, the alcohol is bit pricey - you have to pay by the glass, there aren't any options by the bottle so it adds up quick. For us it was: beer $6, white claws $7, wine $8, cocktails (spirit and mixer) $9, and specialty or craft cocktails $12.

It started off with us trying to get time to do a walk through. We booked last minute, so we knew things were going to be tight but they didn't provide any flexibility with our schedule to do a walk through. Not a deal breaker, but with having to coordinate so many changes within 2 weeks of our wedding we were hoping for some flex from them.

Second, the alcohol was a hot mess. We agreed to do tickets and champagne, but they did an open bar instead and they didn't set out any champagne. They transitioned to a cash bar twice without speaking to us and the champagne they eventually put out didn't fill everyones glasses either. Worst of all, they didn't own up to the mistake. After my husband and I stepped away to talk with them they help accommodate for the mistake, but that should have never happened.

Brandon did our walk through and shared his heart about how he wanted couples to have a great experience because him and his wife didn't have the best experience themselves. So we really thought they would deliver. But the miscommunication added so much unnecessary stress. Then they didn't really pay attention to small details like the trash cans were next to the dance floor so they're in a bunch of photos, the lights have multiple settings but they didn't actually dim them as needed (even after asking) so a bunch of the photos have way too much light in them, and the garbage cans in the restroom were overflowing. Oh my gosh we have nothing but amazing things to say about The Mill Event Venue! They were the last stop on our list when touring and we booked right then and there with Brandon because we were so in love with the venue. We are locals and it was important to us that we got married somewhere close because we wanted all of our out-of-state family and friends to see where we planted our roots. First off, the venue itself is absolutely stunning on its own and we loved the modern/industrial look. Then to have the bridal cottage right next door but still separate was amazing to have our group get ready together. We had a very large wedding party and we all fit perfectly fine and were able to have plenty of space while getting ready. The venue really has everything you need and we brought minimal decorations to make it our own style. Location, parking, scenery, etc. is truly the best of the best. Everything from the staff to the details to the location was perfect!

Our day of coordinator needs her own paragraph because she is SO amazing!! Bailey was positively excellent every step of the way and my husband and I were so hands-off the day of because she was able to execute everything perfectly and really brought our vision to life! She is really one of a kind and is such a genuine human being and I know our day would not have been the same without her. She is the sweetest and most calm and collected coordinator that if anything did go wrong on our day, we still have not heard about it because she made sure everything ran smoothly. We knew she was wonderful, and even our bridal party and guests were raving about her. She was the perfect fit for our day and we love her to pieces! We had our wedding here in August and the venue and staff were absolutely incredible! The on-site coordinator, Larry, is professional, personable, focused, and hands down the very best at throwing a great party.

After having our dream wedding here, my advice is to hire Larry for day-of coordinating and book the bridal house for the full day!

The venue and staff were more affordable and more accommodating than other places we toured. AND all we had to do on our wedding day was enjoy our guests and party!

Larry took care of everything for us, which meant I could relax and enjoy the day (which doesn’t always come easy to me!) Larry built our event timeline, set up and decorated the space, saved the day with a last-minute boutonniere creation, coordinated our ceremony off-site, communicated with our vendors and made sure we had our favorite cocktail and something to eat all night! He even coordinated a secret beer for us at the brewery downstairs so we could have a few moments alone between the ceremony and reception.

The bridal house is BEAUTIFUL. We had a small group of friends and our dog hang out with us while we got ready. We served brunch in the kitchen, and our guests hung out in the back yard and used the rooms to get dressed. Larry and Leah checked in with us frequently AND printed our wedding script for us when we realized we forgot to bring a printed copy!
