Iām so thankful for having Miss Taylor Cox and my barber instructor Chris Ocacio,(a 82nd Airborne veteran)they taught me the right ways when it comes to being a professional, and my other instructors who shared their knowledge and leadership, Matt and Mike who are no longer instructors here and Emerson, who at short notice joined our team and brought a different knowledge to the table, I am so thankful for everything and everyone at this schoolššššŖšŖšŖ.
Danielle is a cosmetologist instructor that I always bothered when I was lost or when the other instructors weāre busy enough and I didnāt want to wait for them to finish with the other students,I would go ask her,,, she instructed me on how to do a foliage while I was assisting another student,. her and Miss Taylor always helped me with the female hair colors and haircuts, I am so thankful for yāall for being so patient and kind, and for being there for me,I will always remember you allā¤ļø I recommend to anyone who wants to be a professional to come to this school, the leadership and the vibe here is to the point that it made me change to a better person. Ā Ā Ā Read moreI donāt believe Iāll be coming back to the Aveda Institute. Even for the killer price, it wasnāt worth the money I paid.
I want to emphasize that my student stylist was great! While there were some things that will come with time and are understandable when you sign up to work with a student (it felt like the shampoo wasnāt fully washed out of my hair which led to brushing and blowing out being extremely painful- that, or the shampoo/conditioner were horrible quality, but whatever it was, it made my hair super hard to brush and that led to a very painful experience) for the most part, I thought she did great. The placement of her foils were impeccable, she got way closer to my scalp than the non-student stylist has in the past, and she was nice and personable.
The part that I felt was pretty unforgivable and why Iād hesitate to go back was the lack of oversight/involvement from the instructor. He was nice and personable when he introduced himself to me at the start, but for the most part, my stylist was left to her own devices for the 6 or so hours I was there. He showed up two or three times for a minute or two to give a vague stamp of approval before moving along. Anytime my stylist had a question for him, heād brush her off with a āwell, what do you think?ā I totally get pushing your students to think for themselves, but when youāre working with something like bleach, if a student isnāt feeling confident, there should be more actual instructing and confirming.
As it stands, Iām unhappy with how my hair turned out, and I donāt understand why the instructor didnāt catch it or lend more expertise. While the foil placements were great, the bleach didnāt fully do what it needed to do- while my roots are blonder, they are still very clearly a different, darker color than the rest of my hair. Iām not sure if it needed to be a different volume, or stay on longer, or something else- but this is the kind of stuff students need to learn, and teachers need to teach. It there is no one to teach the student, all they can do is experiment until they figure it out. And that really sucks for the people being experimented on.
I want to emphasize that from my perspective, this was not the fault of my stylist- she was great, she clearly takes a lot of pride in what sheās doing, and she wants to learn. She asked questions when she wasnāt sure. She is there to learn. No one was teaching her. When the instructor quickly checked how I was processing, he was there all of 30 seconds and said āthat looks greatā. At the end of my service, he checked the work, and he raved- but clearly he must have seen that my hair was two different colors? There was a point when my student stylist gestured at my hair after he had raved and said something like āIs this good?ā And he re-emphasized that yes, it was.
I donāt understand why he didnāt say āhmm, that doesnāt match the way we wanted and hereās why. Hereās what, if anything, we can do.ā Was it maybe because I had been taking up a chair for 6 hours and he didnāt want to potentially have to figure out how to squeeze a correction in? I honestly have no idea. But it wasnāt great. And makes me have very little trust for the Aveda Institute. Again, not the students- the instructors, and the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf i could give negative stars i would. DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL!!!! I was a student from September 2021 to September 2022. They do not prepare you for your state boards but the floor. They do not prepare you for how to book, systems, or ANYTHING you need besides the basics of hair. Want to learn manicures and skin, you have to be apart of Esthiology. Even tho Manicures are apart of the National/state board exam. Theyāre comment on that, you go over it in intro and its your responsibility to continue your theory work in that chapter. IT IS GONE OVER FOR AN HR AT THE LAST DAY IN INTRO (8 weeks in). Theres also a master project we are told about in intro we can complete. I had to fight the director about my approved date because he didnt know what it was, and we take photos on a camera in the office. I HAVE CALLED AND EMAILED AND I STILL HAVENT RECEIVED THOSE PHOTOS!! Look up āAveda Institute Orlando Barber Programā on youtube its the first video that pops up by WKMG News 6⦠its a story of the barbers in MY CLASS that didnt receive the proper education. They have many law suits against them for not giving proper education. I an currently in another state struggling to transfer my license because i did not have the same education and i was not taught the things i need to know in my career. Mens cuts, i had to take continuous education classes after school because i learned the basics of a clipper cut, then my clipperS BROKE! So i never learned again so i always had to have a barber help me. Yet A side was able to do barber cuts and everything. B side (tues, thurs, sat classes) got the brute end of the stick at every turn. They didnt start showing what was promised in classes like fun makeup events for cos (cuz makeup was only allowed to be performed by esthi) AFTER MY GRADUATION AND NEW INSTRUCTORS AND DIRECTORS WERE IN OFFICE. Ask them.. how many instructors left because of the schools lack of organization and keeping to their word. Ive had over $1000 stolen from me from other students and the ācamerasā you see around the school are fakes. The only ones that are real is behind the register. I recommend and wish i went to a technical school or did better research. The education i received is not worth the $20,000 i paid. I spent most of my time working on mannequins cuz i had nothing else to do, or assisting other students.. or in the back bored cuz i had no education. Dont get me started on their color line and products. I got my hair done by a student, i do not blame her, when i started school. The instructor gave her completely wrong instructions and ruined my hair, i also received a haircut from said instructor and iāll show u the faded look to showcase the layers i did not ask for. I ended up going to another friend to fix it and we ended up frying my hair because the difficulty of removing the color. The first photo is my reference, then the bleaching process, then what my hair was when we were done (the black gray). The bottom is what ended up happening , and the second photo is it faded and how fried and choppy the...
