I would NOT recommend having a custom ring made here. I wanted a 10K gold ring with a small ruby in the center. I wanted 6 small diamonds from my gold tennis bracelet removed and placed around the ruby. The sales woman kept telling me that rubies surrounding the diamond would look nice too. I clearly stated that I wanted to use my 6 diamonds and asked how much it would be to add my stones. She said $30. Another woman looked at my 18K gold tennis bracelet and told me how much they would buy my gold for and said the diamonds were real. I decided to order the ring setting and selected the ruby PRICE I was willing to pay, I did not get to see the ruby that would go into the setting. After discussing the price with the first sales woman she said the ruby would be a little bigger than my diamonds and would look nice. She wrote up my order and I put down a payment. When I went in to see the gold ring the ruby had already been set in the center (I thought I would see the ruby before it was set in the center). The ruby was the same size as my diamonds (I thought it was going to be slightly bigger). Then I handed them my gold bracelet to sell with 8 diamonds along with four 14k gold rings. They said they would give me $100 for the gold. I showed them where I wanted my 6 diamonds set around the ruby they then told me it would cost $180 dollars additional to have the diamonds set, I said the sales woman told me it would be $30. The guy kind of smirked and said $30 each stone! Well I have never had a custom ring made so I would not know this..Yeah a little uncomfortable....I knew I should have had the sales woman break down the costs on my order form! I just assumed what I was charged included my diamonds being set in the ring and that was going to work in my budget. After some discussion they said they would do the settings for $150 vs. $180, gee thanks (I thought it was only going to be $30). Karen came out to look at where I wanted the diamonds set apparently she has taken over the family business? She did not seem to be very energetic about helping me, in fact no one there seemed overly excited to be working there. After showing her what I wanted I asked here if I could get in writing what we had discussed, something showing that I sold them my gold and what I was going to owe and she replied No you don't need it I have it all in my computer, then she said: so basically we are doing $150 of labor for $50 for you after we deduct your gold you are selling (she seemed very annoyed). I sold my gold basically to cover the new "labor" cost I just found out about!! The next day Karen called me and said she wanted to let me know that my diamonds in my 18K gold bracelet were not diamonds after all, they were cubic zirconia's! But she could sell me some tiny diamonds for around $30 a piece! Great, now they have my gold and my diamonds. I only have a picture of the bracelet, and one sales person there who originally said the diamonds were real, other than that I did not have not proof that my diamonds were not diamonds (once again HUGE mistake on my part) I told Karen to just put my stones in the ring, I did not want to pay anymore money for the ring. Bottom line, DON'T go here, they are shady, they would not put anything in writing, were misleading on pricing, said my diamonds were real and then said they were not! They did not give back my two remaining stones from the bracelet. I ended up paying about $250 more than I budgeted on this ring, and the ruby was not bigger than the surrounding stones and I did not get to see the ruby before they set it. In my opinion if you can't get GET EVERY DETAIL, cost, labor etc in writing don't do...
Read moreA big 'thank you!' to Laura and Johnson Jewelers for their great customer service and assistance in finding and replacing an opal in my antique ring. I was devastated to lose the opal, which had cracked and fallen off (was 20+ years old). Laura warned me that an opal's color gets softer with age (not the brilliance of a new one) and can sometimes be hard to match, and they do not tolerate heat, so they have to use a laser to set in place. They were able to find a replacement opal just the right size and color and did the work at a very reasonable price! I'm so pleased with their work on this ring! I also brought in another ring with a loose stone that needed tightening. I mentioned the outer setting prongs kept catching on fabrics, and Laura suggested removing the outer ridge, creating a smooth ridge to complement the main setting. The resulting ring is gorgeous (thank you, Laura!!), and after a professional cleaning, just sparkles!! I had also lost my wedding band more than a year ago, and with Laura's help, found a replacement to complement this ring. Overall, Johnson Jewelers (and Laura!) saved the day!! I am very pleased with their service and work! We will...
Read moreI went to Johnson Jewelers to get a pair of pearls set into custom earrings. Due to personal schedule, the timing of the work was going to be very tight (only 10 days to get custom work done). The owner and other employees were very patient with me to work out the design (as I am very picky) and was able to get the work completed in time! I had these pearls for 2 years looking for a good setting for them, and this location really helped me to make these pearls came alive! I thought the final product was beautiful! Note I tried to go to Shane Co, but they don't do custom work.
The only reason I did not give it a full 5 stars was there was a mess up on the initial quote. The earring settings I wanted was originally quoted at half the price. It turned out that the original employee who helped me forgot to click '2' on the setting. So the earrings ended up being a bit pricy. This seems to be a training issue. But the final result was beautiful and I was OK with the final price (they really tried to help me figure out what would be in my budget), so it worked out in the end. I would probably end up going back eventually to get a matching...
