I love this place. The kids working are polite and extremely helpful. They do everything in their power to assist in questions and run the place very well. Hats off to them!
My issue on the last visit was with ownership. I had received a gift card back when we moved to Wooster in 2017, and this weekend we had some visitors in from out of state. Aha! An opportunity to take some out-of-towners to laser tag and armour around the town!
We arrived and went to purchase the 3 game bundle (at a reasonably priced $18 per person) for 5 people. I handed the cashier the gift card and a $50 bill, and she said the gift card was no longer good. Huh? I'm not an attorney, but i know the card is still good. In fact, when I received it, I was in no hurry to use it because, to my delight, it had no expiration date anywhere on it. I knew I had a minimum of 5 years to use it. I informed the nice cashier that it was in still good, and I got a reply that "they no longer have a system to read the magnetic strip." Ok. That's unfortunate, but to put it bluntly, thats... not my problem..? I asked if I could just exchange it for a new one with the new card format, and she recommended she call the owners. Good idea, I'm sure this doesnt happen very often, so she SHOULD call them to inform them that a transfer is happening (I would want the employees of my business to do the same, just so I'm aware that the books will show a $50 difference). A few minutes later, she returns, and says the owners are declining the giftcard because it was obtained when it was run by the previous owners. Keep in mind, the business name is the same, the business itself is the same, and the new owners acquired this place with my $50 gift card already sold in the business history
This response by the owners is not legal, and the correct action would have been to honor the gift card or replace it, since the card didnt follow the guidelines to legally expire in the way they claim. Since it was only $50, I didn't argue it any further with the kid working the counter once I was relayed the ownerships response. Admittedly, i wasnt thrilled to fork over $90 instead of $40, but I didn't have an option 😆 I figured instead of fighting this with a kid who has no weight in what was going on, I'd just come here and make others aware, in case you also have a gift card that you're waiting to use for the right time.
"For single-merchant gift cards or affiliated-merchant gift cards, sellers cannot impose fees for two years (excluding prepaid phone cards and gift cards exempted by Ohio’s Gift Card Act, Ohio Revised Code (ORC) Section 1349.61). After the two-year period, sellers may charge fees only after a 12-month period of inactivity and only one fee within a given month. The fee type, amount, and frequency must be clearly and conspicuously disclosed on the card and made known to the buyer before the purchase. For prepaid network-branded gift cards, which are redeemable at any merchant who accepts the brand, fees can be administered once a month after a 12-month period of inactivity. In other words, sellers do not have to wait two years as they do with single-brand gift cards. This is because Ohio law, which prohibits fees for the first two years, does not apply to mall cards, bank-branded gift cards, or credit-branded gift cards.
What are the requirements for expiration dates?
A general-use prepaid card, gift certificate, or store gift card cannot have an expiration date within five years of the date the card was issued or within five years of the date funds were last loaded on the card, unless the end use is for business purposes. The expiration terms also must be clearly and conspicuously stated. Reloadable cards marketed as gift cards must alert consumers to any difference between a card’s expiration date and the funds’ expiration date. It also must explain that the consumer may obtain a replacement card (or a refund, at the discretion of the issuer) without any fee as long as the underlying funds...
Read moreI recently visited this rink for 2 nights(fri, sat). I really liked it. First ill talk about the skating b/c not enough reviews do. Im used to a much smaller floor with a little better grip. I skate pretty fast, and my 94a turbos didnt have the super confident grip at skateland that im used to at home. If this was my home rink id probably get 91s. I take hard turns, snake my way through the crowd, etc. All that is just to give you an idea of the floor. Someone who likes a little slide would be at home here. I dont mind a little. Overall its very nice, a bit bumpy, but not to a point it slowed my down. Its a good size, and wouldve been more fun with more people. I clean my wheels after each skate, and they werent very dirty at all. Lighting is decent with "lights off". The hockey rinkness of the walls(which im betting it used to be) take away from the vibe a tad. But now im just being picky.. its a fun floor, easy to go fast, plenty of room for a variety of skill levels. One gripe.. the floor guard(only 1 working each night, which was fine for the crowd size those nights) wears a black shirt? Like its the staff shirt. Thats a horrible idea. They arent there to look cool. They should be orange or yellow or i guess white, anything bright and memorable lol, not blends into the background. So when they stop to attend to a kid or whatever, everyone can see theres the floor guard, and theyre stopped, good to know. What if its lights out and i need to find this person? Fix that please, it detracts from the safeness of the floor and lost you a star. And thats my only gripe. Staff i interacted with were great, especially the red haired lady at the snack bar, but the teenager dude working the door was cool too. The music is what ive come to consider standard "good" skate rink music. A couple of misses but youll have that. Not too much of anything, covers all the bases. I consider this a plus.. bad music ruins a skate, and the music here did not suck. The crowd was friendly enough, couple "hotshot" locals(what rink doesnt have those?), kids werent going bonkers or doing the stupid things they sometimes do lol, but thats very hit or miss with an open skate. Oh and they have lockers, though i seemed to be the only one who used them, another good sign.
Lastly, get some skateland stickers! Something cool! Its a great cheap way to get your name out in the world. Everybody still likes stickers. I will happily spend 2-5 dollars for a sticker of a place i like. And cool stickers get asked about.. you know what i mean?
So ill definitely be back. Its far better than the other rink in the area i tried to zoom...
Read moreI want to start off by saying that the place itself is fun, my kids loved it. Now that's the only good thing about it. The manager lady, I can't remember her name, but she is very rude. I had put a deposit down about 2 weeks ago for my daughter's birthday party which was today. When I arrived I stood at the "birthday party check in" counter, and I was told to go to a different one. No big deal, but once I finally got to the register I told her I was checking in for my daughter's birthday party today. She told me that they had no birthday parties for today, and I said yes you do I paid the deposit about 2 weeks ago to you personally when I came in. So she had another worker go and look, and that girl said that there was a party scheduled for today. So she finally realizes that I was right, and told me to just give them 5 minutes to set the table up. Okay, I understand stuff happens, its whatever. After our hour and a half of play time, we all sat down to eat our food. I knew the policy is that u get 1 and a half hours of play time, and then the last half hour is for food, desert and gift opening. So we finally got our food, which was very good and we all were eating and talking and having a good time. Well one of the other workers walked up to me in front of the entire party and said "you guys are not allowed in the play zones anymore" and said it very rudely. It was totally uncalled for, not one person of our party was even away from the table at this point so it was unnecessary to say the least. This place is very unprofessional and like in a lot of other reviews I see that the employees are rude to most other people also but I thought I would give it a try. Needless to say I won't be returning in the future. They need to find somebody that's polite to run this place, and maybe some new employees that actually like people. For my children's future birthdays i will be taking them and my money elsewhere and unless you want a bad experience yourself then I would advise you to do the same thing. This place used to be great when I was younger, cant believe how bad...
