I have explored this store in 1 go, because: i live 35+ miles from here, with no traffic. i usually go to the one in west covina but this one is closer i heard this is bigger than the west covina area
if i remember correctly there's also outdoor seats, there's 2 restaurants, 1 is a buffet and 1 is a ramen service? (i'm not sure but dont bet me on that) there's lots of seats to choose from.
i love their bakery and pastries! i tried their green tea, chocolate, i skipped the jalapeño though. in fact, i love everything!
the purpose of coming here bec. my mom's planning to make kilawin tuna thats some type of filipino sushi delicacy. and i was hoping to see more tuna in cube form, and luckily i found some! now people might ask, why didnt you just buy from a fish store nearby your house? well if you ask me, there's just something fresh about buying from a japanese store and i'd rather travel far just to buy it fresh. that's how i believe and i'll stick to that.
well overall, i'd still travel here to stock some japanese goods, there arent any in my area, so i'd buy lots of japanese snacks, the first cashier who rang me up was very nice too. lots of sushi to choose from, i also found some fresh Uni at the back and i snagged one.
i actually brought my friends to go here and its not like i'm trying to impress them, but i'm just glad when we decided to eat here, they ended up liking the food, bec. the buffet in west covina... i didnt like it so much. although i didnt get to try their buffet here bec. i ate the sushi food that i bought from their display and i wish i can buy them all. this will be my to-go japanese store...
Read moreIt's quite decent with lots of Japanese-centric items. But I do think the quality of the overall store was much better prior to 2020. Prior to now, fish was really fresh; nowadays, there's a lot of farm caught sushi, and the quality is not as great. The coloration of the meat for the salmon is very light, to me that is indicative of farm raised fish, which also has so-so flavor.
Otherwise, they have a very large selection of Japanese faire, including lots of well-known brands that have been around a long time, unfortunately a lot of them still contain MSG. Their pricing for vegetable and fruits are higher than average compared to other stores, but their egg prices are strangely very competitive. They have some selection of gluten free items, such as rice flour and have a nice selection of mochi and snacks.
I think their customer service has gone downhill since the pandemic; their clerks don't help you bag still, and customer service is so-so compared to other supermarkets. I understood that during the pandemic they didn't want to touch your bags in fear of contamination, but everything has since normalized. Maybe they should think about opening up a self-checkout station if they weren't going to help anyway. Why pay premium pricing for...
Read moreI’ve been wanting to stop by and check out @tokyo.central for awhile and I’m glad I had a chance to visit the #yorbalinda location. Such a big selection of Japanese groceries in #socal🇯🇵🍜🍣🐡🍱🍡
Let’s go explore…
A HUGE selection of sushi and sashimi. It was nice to see that they were restocking the sushi area so everything looked fresh and oh so good! Bento boxes are amazing! Ramen were ready to go in the food court. Poke Bowls had big chunks of spicy salmon at a great price. Most excited for the Tako Sashimi! One of my favorites!!💙 Sandwich options for lunch. So many sweet treats, including skewered Dango. Wonderful selection of hot food items for lunch and dinner. So much fresh fish So many Kimchi options, including cucumber kimchi. Soup Base for Hot Pot and whatever you need for it. An amazing selection of Frozen foods, like Pork Bao and Buns. Wagyu Beef for Shabu Shabu and other meat options. Their produce department had a great selection and nicely displayed. So many snack options that looked so yummy.
They have all the seasonings, seaweed and sriracha mayo to make your own Poke Bowls at home, which I did stock up on. 😊
And, so much more to see that would probably take another trip...
