Now I'm not sure if I had an awful time because I was pregnant and emotional or if my treatment was genuinely horrendous; I'll let you be the judge.
When I walked in I was struck by, "Can I have your Licence please?" Most people would have probably walked away right then, but I'm rather easy going so I complied. She then explains to me that she's had a series of thefts, which puts me at ease. After this, I decided to browse. Another customer strolls in, one that she seems well acquainted with and they begin to talk. I then, assuming this establishment was like most rock stores, began picking up cards with information about each rock that I was hoping to get later. There was no way for me to know that what I was doing was wrong in the eyes of the owner.
Finally, she asked me what I was doing and I told her without hesitation. She replied by saying "Those come with the purchase of rocks only, you're going to have to put all of them back." Her and her friend began to laugh at me and talk about me as if I was a horribly idiotic person. I started putting the cards back when I saw some magazines for sale and asked about them. She didn't tell me much, she just said that they weren't free. I then said, " I know the magazines aren't free I just wanted more information. That's why I grabbed the cards." That's when her friend chimed in and said, "Yeah, well, those cards aren't free either."
At this point I wanted to toss the cards in the air and walk out, but she had my ID. Instead of allowing them to abuse me more, I fought back in the most polite way I could; I told them about my sad sad life. Eventually, both the owner and the friend felt so sorry for me that they let me leave without putting away the rest of the cards. I've never been that embarrassed in my life. I will never go back to World of Rocks. I recommend new customers to go with a friend, hopefully you'll avoid...
Read moreI recently started looking for local shops to purchase my healing stones for multiple reasons/purposes and I'm still quite new with it.
So when I arrived at World of Rocks, I was greeted and welcomed upon my entry. When I thanked the employee, I let her know I had a LIST!! She definitely showed enthusiasm and responded with, "We love lists!!" It made me happy and feel like way less of a burden since this was my first ever visit to the shop. She introduced herself and gave me a gentle break down of the store and how they do their shopping. Mo, was amazing! Extremely kind, helpful, and the vibe from her person was genuine feeling.
I immediately felt like I was in the right place and was filled with reassurance. Mo briefly explained the different types of stones that were available, styles of stones (tumbled/raw), locations of specific styles, purchase options, etc.
I was bummed to find out my previous spots had been permanently closed, however, in this journey, I found a new amazing shop, with great staff, plenty of options, they allow you to search at your own pace (which is beautiful if you're the type of person that FEELS a certain stone calling for you), and offer any additional help with questions, suggestions, clarification, etc of items in the store.
I was drawn to this store... There were too many factors that were involved with this visit that indicated it was where I was supposed to be
I absolutely WILL be back, I've already mentioned this shop to a few friends and we plan on making a day of it soon!!!
Thank you again so much for all the help and I loved my experience greatly!!!
MO, YOU'RE...
Read moreHaving seen that the reviews of this place have been downright negative for the most part, I decided to give it a shot. I took my mother with me, who is an expert on dealing with merchants who could care less about your business, and we were locked and loaded for the experience. The door was a give away that we were at the right place; signs were posted all over it about what you can and cannot do and that customers should surrender their driver's license. Inside, we saw a totally different atmosphere from what we were expecting. People were casually browsing and having a good time. This was most likely because the owner was down the street and a very helpful and polite employee was there in her place. The shop itself is great as far as lapidaries go (which are rare in SE Michigan to begin with) and had a lovely selection. Every item was sourced as to its origin and had helpful descriptions on little cards you could take home with you. The feel of the place is more new-age than scientific, but they do cater to both crowds equally. The owner did return while we were there and watched us like a hawk, even bending over right on top of me! Our guess is that she has been ripped off quite a bit. We went...
