Bondi Motel Moree – Unsafe, Unclean, and Deeply Disturbing I would put monsters if possible.
I arrived at Bondi Motel Moree after a 12-hour drive, having called earlier to confirm our arrival. The man who answered was curt, barely spoke English, and made no effort to be welcoming. On arrival, we were greeted by an older woman who grumbled as she led us into a reception area the size of a toilet cubicle. It reeked of cooking oil, cigarette smoke, and stale air. She handed over the key and made an inappropriate comment about my partner—who is non-binary—questioning why two people would only need one bed. It was invasive, offensive, and completely out of line. This town had many queer people living and working in t as we discovered the next day at the aquatic centre- across the road from the motel, it wasn’t unusual.
The car park was empty, and our room door was wide open with the TV blaring. As we unpacked, a person staggered across the lot, muttering about the cold before disappearing into a nearby room. Another car arrived shortly after. The atmosphere was unsettling from the start.
Inside, the room was a horror show. The bathroom was filthy—mirrors streaked with grime, squashed bugs in the tiles, and a general sense that no proper cleaning had been done in years. The kitchen was falling apart, with missing tiles, mould, and dirt caked into every surface. The lace curtains were torn, coated in oily dust, and looked like they hadn’t been washed in decades. We were exhausted and tried to sleep, but were woken repeatedly by barking dogs and violent yelling from other guests. Doors slammed, abuse was hurled, and the chaos continued into the early hours. It felt unsafe, and the motel owners did absolutely nothing to intervene.
We didn’t shower—the bathroom was more unhygienic than we were. We packed up before sunrise, shaken and disgusted. As we left, a middle-aged man sat coughing and spitting outside our room, was clearly the old woman’s son and in charge of the motel in the morning. As he walked into the reception room I followed and I handed back the key and told him we wouldn’t be staying the second night we’d paid for. He didn’t ask why. I also learned later that the motel locks huge gates at night locking us in unable to escape had the abusive guests turned on us or our car. How is that legal to lock people in and without even telling us !
This nightmare cost us $190. Even at $50, it would’ve been unacceptable. I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone. The motel is unliveable, and the fact it has a 3-star rating and an 8 on Booking.com is baffling. Either the reviews are fake or people have extremely low standards.
We camped the rest of our trip, and even the oldest caravan park showers were cleaner and more welcoming than this place. Bondi Motel Moree was the worst accommodation we encountered—by far. If you value your safety, dignity, and hard-earned money, sleep in your car, pitch a tent, or find literally...
Read moreWe are a self catering couple. |Our first impressions of the motel were not good. The office really reeked of tobacco smoke and was very unpleasant to enter. |Unlike the room in the photograph, our room was dark and depressing. Overall it showed a lack of care & neglect & when we wanted to use any items from the cupboards we gave them a good scrub first. Both of the taps in the kitchen area and bathroom constantly dripped, & there wasn't a plug for the kitchen sink; there was no frying pan & the 2 other pans provided had caked oil on the base; the ceiling light fitting in the bathroom had lots of dead bugs in it; there were a few chips out of the worktop in the kitchen and the curtain at the front window had a large tear in it; the shower screen in the bathroom looks blurry and is probably scored from attempts to clean it but at least it’s not a shower curtain which would be worse; the shower is not very strong; there were no wine glasses but there was a sharp knife and a small chopping board plus modern reverse cycle aircon and bedside lights. We were given a bath towel and a hand towel, soap, combined shampoo/conditioner but no face cloths.|We unpacked and went straight out to see what Moree had to offer and on returning & switching on the lights the room didn’t seem so bad and with a bit more care and attention things could be much better. In addition If they got rid of the armchair & the wardrobes and installed functional shelves it would lighten .the room up considerably|The good news is that it is in a good location and it is just around the corner from the Aquatic Centre which has artesian heated pools. The entrance fee for non-local seniors was $10 each. We were also able to walk easily to the tourist centre and the...

The rooms, while clean, were very cramped, bed uncomfortable, and bugs or mites were biting and was itching while laying in bed.
The shower I found very dangerous, it is a full bathroom floor shower with a slope in the tiles to hold the water in shower, the moment there was soap on floor the tiles were very slippery and I slipped getting out.
Aircon took hours to cool down the room on full. Would not recommend in summer.
The parking..... horrible. Very narrow and cramped. Once you drive in you need to reverse all the way back out when leaving as no room to turn around.
The price of $110 was on the higher end of accommodation in Moree, cheaper places were available with better updated rooms, but picked this because we thought there was a pool for our child to play. We would have picked somewhere else if we knew that wasn't the case.
Sorry but won't...
