“Healthy-ish Series for Macro Counters”

This is part of my new installation and obsession: finding quick, delicious, high protein meals while roadtripping or traveling that’s not gonna blow out your calories. Nothings worse than destroying your hard work by grabbing maccas or some other crappy fast food while passing through!

So this was honestly a super unassuming place but it was worth the punt! It looks like it used to be a fishery or something and then these guys took over. While the facilities look like it could use a little tlc, the food more than makes up for it.

Only had cals and time to try one dish this time but it was the lemon grass chicken and rice with an egg. They grilled the chicken until it formed a delightful crispy crust and then did something with the rice - i think tossed it in a fish sauce blend. With the pickled veggies, cucumbers, egg, and spring onions, it just made the heartiest satiating meal I’ve had in awhile. Didn’t even feel gross after. Just nourished. No fast food could’ve done this as I’d normally feel heavy with my glucose spiked. There’s one caveat in that the chicken and rice did have a slightly fatty mouthfeel so I’ve estimated (generously) what might have gone into it, not hard facts.

With this in mind, here’s my estimate for your macros:

Lemon grass chicken thighs, cooked: 160g Jasmine rice, cooked: 300g Egg xl: 1 Pickled carrot/daikon: 10g Cucumber: 20g

The chef was super cheerful and helpful as well so overall I’ll be stopping in again on my way back...

The food is delicious. Ribs - boeuf bourguignon and steak cooked medium rate perfectly (which hardly ever happens). All the meals were large and served quickly. I called into this little gem on my way through Moree, I am so glad I found this place. The food I ordered was excellent and the prices are great. The Vietnamese iced coffee was sooo delicious that I ordered another! The deserts and salads looked delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. You can order takeaway or dine in. I will definitely be calling in again on my way...
