I could really write an essay about how perfect our experience was. I will probably miss a few points, but I will try to share why we were so impressed. With regards to the property I share all the good comments regarding its style and character, the room, the pool, the amenities, the location (a couple of steps from the 4 Miles Beach and a short walk from the centre), etc.
But what was well beyond our expectations was the hospitality of Ken (one of the two owners). And we are not talking about the kind of professional hospitality, but genuine and warm hospitality. For just a short 3-nights stay (which should have been 5 at least) Ken helped me to book some great activities. We exchanged quite a few long emails and he would try to understand our profile and propose activities that we would enjoy the most. He organised the payments which he all added to the room and we didn't have to bother about multiple bookings and payments. He arranged a very good quality pick-up service from the airport for a very good price. He even arranged for our check-out day for our luggage to be transported to the hotel we would stay in Cairns and we were dropped off at the Skyline Kuranda, which again he arranged with a return journey with the scenic railway. When we were interested if we could do something, from visiting the local wildlife park to going to a restaurant, he would make the call for us to ask for details or book.
And then there were the little things such as chatting with us, keeping us company while waiting for the mini bus to pick us up for the Barrier Reef adventure, helping with our luggage, waiting outside for the taxi at our check out date and waving us goodbye, always always with a big smile - even emailing us later to ask about the rest of our trip etc. We felt that it was as if Ken was a good friend or relative, staying at his place and we genuinely felt sad when we left. Ken made such a big difference for our trip and we can only say a...
Read moreWow we totally agree with recent review by Drurolnz. We must have had same apartment?! We booked our apartment on reviews on Tripadvisor but what a huge disappointment it turned out to be. We just cant believe how they get so many 5's and it does make you suspicious. ||Good points: Comfortable bed & convenient location and that's where the positives end.||Bad Points: Tiny apartment with dated furniture. A ridiculously small TV in lounge only. Very small bathroom. Kitchen was just nasty & greasy with a very small fridge and poorly equipped. The whole apartment is so outdated. You sink into the lounge and have trouble getting out. The TV - well its just farcical - the smallest we've seen in 30 years and its almost impossible to watch in bed as it is supposed to be able to be turned around in a gap in the lounge wall. Very small bathroom. Car parking spaces also very small especially for those guests with 4 wheel drives - pretty normal in North Qld. Tiny balcony with no privacy at all and you could hear everyone's conversation on other balconies as no partitioning or privacy screens between the numerous balconies.||I dont think we are overly fussy but cleanliness, presentation and comfort paramount. We enjoyed Port Douglas visit but so glad to leave Martinique on Macrossan and head to somewhere more pleasant to stay. Maybe we just got the worst apartment in the building?? Oh & I mustn't forget the endless leaf blower going at 7am in the morning which another couple also complained about to us while we were there. We even heard someone in the next door building shout out to the owner to stop using so early as he had been woken up 2 mornings in a row. Surely it could wait til 9am and perhaps the hours between 7am-9am would be better spent cleaning units &/or...
Read moreThis may well be the place where your parents came for their honeymoon? We knew about the absence of a lift and non-serviced, but sadly there were a lot of other modern facilities absent at the Martinique. Our apartment had an overall grubby/grimy feeling about it and it was dark and dingy. A small old kitchen with no dishwasher and the bare minimum of cleaning items to wash and clean. Four wine glasses; no 2 the same! A fruit bowl with the plastic bunch of grapes I last saw in 1974- are you getting the picture?. I don’t think you could buy a cheaper television and microwave from Kmart. I think you would be provided with more bathroom amenities at a refugee facility on Manus Island than we were given for our 3 day stay. The coin operated laundry in the basement completed the austere and mean spirited theme of the place. The pool was more like a fish pond- small and unappealing ||Clearly the place is well patronised but there has been very little reinvestment and I fail to understand why there is no attempt to modernise and keep the place up to date. Why there are so many positive reviews of the Martinique puzzles me. I had to submit this review 4 times before it was taken up by Tripadvisor- I have my own suspicions!||Sadly all accomodation looks great on the internet and the Martinique is no exception. This place represents very poor value for money and in my view a dump-...
