Friday 28th June 2024 – Medusa Medusa Greek Taverna (Sydney CBD) This is one of our favourite Greek restaurants and we are always over the moon with the service, atmosphere and the quality of food that is consistently provided. If your after a great place to come with friends, family and loved ones I recommend Medusa as the place to visit. We visited for lunch on this occasion and on that day they had a special menu offering a few different items so we opted for a serving of the zucchini flowers and from there standard a la carte menu we ordered Octapodi Tis Skaras (Bass strait BBQ octopus on roasted pepper and olive tapenade), Tilihti Fetta Me Meli (Filo wrapped goats and sheeps milk cheese, baked, drizzled with honey and sesame seeds), Paithakia (marinated lamb cutlets, grilled with potato, roast capsicum and caramelized onion), Xifias (QLD Mooloolaba Swordfish and prawns marinated in lime chilli and honey sauce, chargrilled on shredded cabbage), Exohiko (Lamb backstrap, kaseri cheese, truffle oil mushroom Pâté and pistachio wrapped and baked in folio pastry served with celeriac pureé (served medium). We ended the meal with dessert and chose Galactobouriko (Greek Crème Patisserie hand rolled into filo pastry cigars served with poached pear and ouzo ice cream) & the Bougatsa (Baked pastry parcel filled with mastiha infused semolina custard served with caramelized orange and vanilla bean ice cream). All the food was exceptional, vibrant, fresh and seasoning, which had all of us salivating for more. We will continue to be regular patrons.

I came here for a work Christmas dinner and went with the $59 set menu that got us some shared appetizers and a great variety of mains. The shared starters were very nice, featuring salad, a variety of dips, breads and my favourite of them all, crispy and super tasty calamari. The mains were generous in size and tasted nice. The only issue was that the fish was unevenly cooked, and lamb shoulder was a bit tough. The dessert was a slight disappointment as I did not like the flavours of the watermelon sorbet, but I liked the ouzo ice-cream a lot. From service point of view, the waiter responsible for our table was doing a great job up until the point when another waiter helped putting the desserts of our table. First of all, he was rushing and dropped an entire scoop of ice cream on my lap. In response, he quickly gave me a bottle of soda water and a clean cloth. Great, but he did not return with a new dessert nor did anyone clean up the melting ice cream on the floor between my feet. On top of that, we were also given one less serve of dessert because one of my workmates have left early. Anyway, I told the lady at the counter when I paid the bill. Then the waiter came over to apologize and offered us free drinks from the bar. I appreciated the gesture but the damage was already done.

Truly a wonderful culinary experience from start to finish. We ordered two entrees- the calamari and prawns cooked in tomato sauce with feta. Both dishes were outstanding...... with the calamari being the most tender I have ever ever eaten. The serving size was more than generous. The prawn dish was equally amazing with the sauce spicy and rich but didn’t over power the prawns. The mains were also fantastic but the stars of the night were the entrees and dessert. So the bill for 2 lemon lime & bitters drinks; 1 dessert; 2 entrees and 2 mains =$135. The staff were exceptional , helpful and friendly. Truly a wonderful experience and restored my faith in Sydney providing very good food. We will definitely be back to make our way through the menu, particularly the entrees.

If you’re on the hunt for the most authentic Greek food in Sydney, look no further than Medusa Greek Taverna. As someone from a long line of Cypriots, I can confidently say that the dishes here are nothing short of extraordinary—and that’s saying something!

From the moment we stepped into the tavern, we were enveloped in a warm, inviting atmosphere that felt like a home away from home. We kicked off our culinary adventure with the octopus, and let me tell you, it was grilled to perfection—smoky, tender, and bursting with flavor. Each bite transported me straight to the sun-kissed shores of the Mediterranean.

But the true star of the evening was the lamb shoulder. Oh, the lamb! Slow-cooked and seasoned to absolute perfection, it took me right back to the old country. The meat was so succulent and flavorful, it practically melted in my mouth. The spices and herbs used were a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Greece, evoking memories of family feasts and gatherings.

To cap off this incredible meal, we indulged in two cups of coffee that left us in delightful debate! Peter, the owner, and I couldn’t agree on whether it was Turkish or Greek coffee, but what we could agree on was how phenomenal it was. Served alongside delightful pieces of Turkish delight or as Peter called them Greek loukoumi, it was like a warm hug in a cup.

And if that wasn’t enough, we capped the night with traditional desserts—Galaktoboureko and baklava that would make my Auntie Fatima proud. The baklava was flaky, sweet, moist and utterly irresistible, while the Galaktoboureko offered a perfect balance of creamy custard and crispy pastry.

It’s so refreshing to see owners like Peter, who are dedicated to keeping these cherished traditions alive. I left Medusa Greek Taverna with a full belly and a happy heart, and I can’t wait to return for another unforgettable meal. If you’re in Sydney, do yourself a favor and experience the magic of Medusa. You...

We attended this resturdant after Melbourne cup (sober, just looking for a good dinner as our lunch wasn't filling enough), we were greeted by a rather grumpy older man who told us that as we didn't have a booking we had to sit outside, this was fine but when we asked if we could have the outdoor heater turned off, we were yelled out and told no, it was 30 degrees at 6pm... We sat down, the waitress was super nice, helpful and promptly took our order. About 15 minutes in, we asked a waiter if he could turn the heater off as we were all melting, he turned it off and went back inside only to be abused by the older man for turning it off. We got our food and it was great however through-out the night, I watched the older man abuse almost every single person on the waitstaff while sitting outside of the resturant but facing the main counter, it made me sick. When it came time to pay, we asked if we could split the bill in half and the older man came out with the eftpost machine, he was incredibly rude, borderline abusive. Told us to work out the amounts as he wasn't going to do it, I told him that we did not appreciate the way he had spoken to his waitstaff or to us as paying customers and he should be a bit more appreciative for our business despite the fact that we didn't have a reservation. He was rude boardline abusive and we left. He needs to retire... or I really hope the waitstaff quit and find a better place to work. It's all really a shame because the food is great but the service and attitude is horrendous......
