I have been visiting the Toowoomba Sports Club for over a decade with family, friends, and coworkers. Normally, it is a very pleasant experience. The staff and customer service are great, and the food and atmosphere are always enjoyable. However, I recently attended the Toowoomba Sports Club with a friend for an early dinner, and unfortunately, it was not up to the usual standard.
As we walked into the establishment, we were first greeted at the front desk by a woman who informed my friend that she might need to change her shirt or cover up. My friend was wearing a tie-up crop top that showed a small amount of stomach, paired with high-waisted jeans. While there was no cleavage, we were happy to comply. We returned to the car, and my friend changed into a T-shirt.
When we returned to the entrance and were greeted by the same staff member, we asked if there was a formal dress code for the establishment. Her response was simply, “Well, you know, it’s showing a bit of stomach.” We understood and didn’t press the matter further.
However, when my friend presented her ID to the staff member, she began to mock my friend’s name. While my friend’s name has a unique spelling, it is a common name. The staff member remarked, “Oh, I don’t even know how to say that.” We politely corrected her on the pronunciation and even joked that unusual name spellings were quite common in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, she continued to make fun of the name and then asked, “Was your mum on drugs or something?”
My friend and I were stunned into silence and decided to move on, heading upstairs to the restaurant. However, this encounter soured our mood. To make matters worse, only a few minutes later, we noticed other patrons entering the venue in outfits similar to what my friend had originally worn, with some even showing more stomach.
The rest of the staff were absolutely lovely and accommodating, and the food was fantastic. However, our experience was overshadowed by this rude interaction with a staff member.
We will continue to visit the Toowoomba Sports Club, as we do enjoy it, but I would appreciate it if management could address this staff member’s behavior. It would be beneficial for her to improve her etiquette, particularly when dealing with younger clientele and those with unique...
Read moreVery disappointed. A large group 15+ of us went here for dinner last night, As I recommend this place for our work gathering, as my partner and I go here all the time and it is a special place for us. That all changed last night.. We will never return ever again.. While some staff tried to help and we're polite, The way management handle things is very poor and to be honest very rude. I ordered my food after being told that the lamb shank was cooked it NORMAL GRAVY ! To have it served to me in a tomato style sauce with chunks in it, after one bite made me feel crook to my stomach .. I sent it back and asked if I could change my order to the steak as I am allergic to tomatoes. Obviously happy to pay the extra cost involved to do that They were happy to do so.. problem solved . Then the manager came out and said we are not refunding you or changing your meal cause there is nothing wrong with it the fact that I'm allergic to tomatoes isn't their problem.. Soon after another manager was told by a staff member that I don't look so good... He said do u need an ambulance a bucket or you can leave ... So after being the max 20-30mins we left with no replacement and no refund...
Read moreA group of us , 6, booked in last Wednesday an ordered our meals and the rest of the group had theirs but ours had been forgotten. A staffer call Hannah corrected the wrong by cooking and serving our meals. To my further disappointment there were no cutlery supplied and napkins, and were told to collect our own. My wife and I were left disappointed at the time, because on previous occasions the service was good. By comparison Friday we went to The Lions at Richlands where there were 200 patrons on hand enjoying lunch. The tables were set, staff attended to our drinks, and our quality lunch. Wake up management of Toowoomba Sports Club, lack of service, stuff ups to us patrons it not nearly good enough. I think we will go...
