Very inconspicuous address, you have to be right in front of it to know there is even a restaurant there. Reservation required, as it would have been full otherwise. We were received in a friendly manner, relieved of our coats and guided to our seats. Table for four consisted of two round street terrace tables put together. Decoration of ceiling with artful random thick black lines on white. Music that sounded good on entering but began to grate a bit on our ears by the time we left. It was very dark inside, We had to use our phones to be able to read the menu, which could be summarized in about 10 options. Friendly server who explained things to us. The portions are not very large, with the exception of the tagliatelle and the Wiener schnitzel. Accordingly we had the schnitzel and the tagliatelle but with some starters, bread and butter (had to be ordered separately, not automatically put on the table like in most other countries we have visited) but which was really good, slightly salty bread with butter that had been fluffed up to make it easy to spread; and a beetroot salad and a spinach, goat cheese and honey salad which were really excellent, very surprising tastes. The tagliatelle was reported to me as excellent as well. The schnitzel however fell a bit flat. well cooked, but a very thin slice of veal with a very thick layer of crust, could have used a bit more salt, served with a sauce of small cranberries which was just a bit too sweet, a quarter lemon and a dish of cooked potato pieces in a thin vinaigrette of oil, vinegar and chives. Very acid. I have had better. I suppose that being a restaurant in Vienna you cannot NOT have schnitzel on the menu. The white wine was excellent, if pricey - a bottle for 45 Euro and there were no options that were much cheaper. On leaving they knew exactly which coats were ours and so, after two hours, we left well satisfied after a...
Read moreHighlight of My Vienna Trip This was our last dinner in Vienna, and honestly—it changed my perspective on schnitzel forever. I’m not usually a fan, but everything here was a solid 5/5: from the warm and helpful service staff, the cozy ambiance with live music, to the absolute comfort of the space and, of course, the incredible food.
Tip: Book in advance! Even though the restaurant closes late, it’s packed. We arrived just before 9 PM and there were still queues—both couples and large groups waiting to get in.
The staff was so friendly and helpful when we got overwhelmed with excitement over the menu. He guided us to start with the classic schnitzel (we ordered the half portion with a side of potato salad)—and I loved it! The flavors were balanced and delicious, a big surprise for someone who usually skips schnitzel. We also got a fresh kale salad to share.
For our mains, we ordered: • Truffle gnocchi – rich, creamy, and comforting. • Lamb goulash – the absolute highlight. The lamb was fall-apart tender, beautifully spiced, and paired with vegetables and a touch of sour cream. It was heaven on a plate.
Despite being full, we made room for dessert (because how could we not?) and tried their house-made version of a Snickers bar. It’s their unique take, and honestly? A must-try. So indulgent and satisfying.
Huge thanks to the team for the amazing service and unforgettable food. A truly perfect way to end our...
Read moreSkopik & Lohn is a renowned restaurant located in the Leopoldstadt district of Vienna, known for its unique blend of Austrian, European, and Central European cuisine. The restaurant is celebrated for its artistic ambiance, featuring a striking ceiling painted by artist Otto Zitko1. It has earned a spot in the MICHELIN Guide, highlighting its quality and culinary excellence2. During my recent dinner at Skopik & Lohn, I had a delightful experience. The veal escalope Viennese style was, as always, very tasty and perfectly cooked. The starters, though a bit small, were flavorful and well-prepared. The dessert, île flottante, was exceptional and a perfect end to the meal. The service was very friendly, adding to the pleasant atmosphere. However, there was a noticeable wait between courses, which could be improved. Despite this, the overall culinary experience was very satisfying, though it comes at a higher price point. In summary, Skopik & Lohn offers a very tasty culinary experience with a friendly atmosphere, making it a great choice for a special night out in Vienna. Just be prepared for a leisurely dining pace and a slightly...
