All about the wonderful, friendly service at this traditional-style cafe in the hipsterish, still gentrifying end of the 4th district. Coffee is just okay, but the ‘Oriental’ breakfast plate was decent, and the serving size generous. If you are expecting to find newspapers from around the world, sorry! There are only German-language dailies available which is unlike other more renowned traditional cafes in this city. But Cafe Goldegg is a great place to linger for a long gossip session with your pals, or for a cosy-up with your fave magazine or book, or while vlogging/blogging/social media trolling as you people watch.

The small one-cubicle toilets add interest in and amongst a couple of other features like the old heaters which may or may not be functioning. There is just one (1) toilet for the Damen (women) and one for the Herrera (men).

For those who are social media hacks, there is an extremely Insta-friendly room that’s separated from the main cafe and is available for functions for a minimum spend.

As for the general ambience, the frayed seating and general decor need some updating and maintenance, as does the big clock that seems to have stopped running some moons ago. For the social media die-hards, recall that this cafe has featured on numerous local tv/screen sets and such like.
