We have been staying at Eastern Residence about twice a year for a few years now.||The hotel is of modest standards; however, it matches its pricinig accordingly. If you are looking for western standards and comfort check in the Westin or Sheraton (for about six times the price per room than here).||The rooms, bathrooms are clean and have adequate space. There was always a working elevator when we have stayed. There is a generator, so power outages do not affect the hotel. The water is clean. ||The restaurant had a buffet breakfast and an a la carte lunch and dinner service. Prices are reasonable for the average traveller. They offer a mix of Bangladeshi, Indian, and Chinese dishes. Our recurrent favorite appears to be the stif fried noodle. No alcohol is served on the premises (if you are desperate the Westin has two alcohol serving bars open to the public; it is about 5-10 minutes from the hotel by rikshaw or taxi).||The service is highly personal and curteous. There is ample staff to greet you and take care of all your needs (moving your luggage to your room, show you the amenities, check you in and out, etc.). Have some small denomination bills (single US dollars, 20 taka bills, etc) as tipping is customary and highly appreciated. Bangladeshi people are very friendly and are happy to engage travellers from foreign lands to talk and exchange ideas. Sometimes this can be obtrusive; the staff here is reserved compared to Bangladeshi standards. However, feel free to engage them so you can learn more about Bangladesh. Most of the staff has good working English.||There is a shuttle bus service which needs to be booked in advance but was always available for trips to and from the airport, to the Gulshan shopping complex or the Westin ;)||It is a hotel representing the country well and what you should expect if you venture outside of Dhaka and are trying to stay in the BEST available hotel in the area (perhaps with the exception of Chittagong...
Read moreI stayed at Eastern Residence three times last month due to my employer but unfortunately it is not worth the money. The staff is very good and helpful. They arrange everything you need. Security is good with guards outside 24/7. Possibility to arrange transport to the airport any time a day. The restaurant is quite good with tasty Bangladeshi food and the breakfast is not bad. So far so good. But the hotel is quite run down and not very clean. Especially the bathrooms are not clean. Rooms are ok but not more. Clean sheets but very run down rooms. People are smoking in the lobby and you smell smoke in the rooms. There is no bar and no possibility to get a beer. Decent wifi. Rooms facing the street are noisy and the AC is also quite noisy. The area is good with shops and restaurants close by. But it is not worth the money and I just can´t...
Read moreOne of my most stressful stays. Nay, the most stressful stay. This hotel has certainly seen better days. Smelly rooms, gurgling taps and shower. Non paying guests in the form of mosquitoes. Almost non existent wifi. Remote for air conditioning gasping for breath. Slightly bent on one side TV that has outstandingly bad picture quality. Asked for cold milk at breakfast one morning. Was handed a lukewarm glass of whitish liquid. When asked if it can be colder, I was told that the fridge is out of order. But I think the crowning glory was the fact that they threw away my blood pressure medicines while cleaning the room! So you see, this place is injurious to health. You have...
