A nice hotel in Bruges. Worth a visit if you can get a good deal on price. But please beware of the issues as stated in my review.||||The hotel entrance is quaint and luxurious looking. The room we had was classed as a suite and had a relatively nice view of the canal and belfry. One of the window chain latches was broken which I noticed on the last day.||||There are some improvements that would be welcomed especially for future guests.||||We were looking forward to the breakfast as the reception staff told us we could have our eggs any way with ham and salmon etc.||||On the first day of breakfast I asked for poached eggs but was told they couldn’t do them so I asked if I could have scrambled eggs which they did. The guest table next to me asked for eggs with salmon and was told they don’t serve salmon only on weekends. The orange juice was not replenished so I asked and was told by one of the kitchen staff that “I am on my own” ||||The breakfast choice is an absolute disaster for the price you pay. The service, the food choice and the attitude from the staff (although friendly) is not good as it seems as if there was nothing available and it was a very disorderly process asking for or ordering anything.||||The second day of breakfast there was no orange juice, no cheese. The coffee machine ran out of water and it took 15 minutes for someone to fill it up, Yoris finally appeared with a plastic container full of water. There was a queue of unhappy bemused looking people. 10 minutes later the coffee machine stopped again - drip tray was full. Again a queue was forming including me who was thirsting for coffee. When we left there was still no cheese or orange juice being served.||||Breakfast was a big big let down on both days and if we were there any longer then we would’ve eaten out elsewhere.||||Dogs are also allowed to be walked around the breakfast area by guests. This is a big hygiene issue and if anyone has pet hair allergies then this could cause a big problem. These dogs were not service dogs of any kind.||||When we left we asked Yoris where to get the bus, he was unaware of how to get to Bruges train station by bus or where the bus went from.||||The pool area was warm but there were lots of dead insects and flies around pool area.||Pool side filters open and not covered so a small child or baby could easily swim into the filter hole.||||Towels in room very dated.||Swing door in bathroom was dangerous for young children as it was heavy and could swing both ways and easily catch a child’s or adults hand at that.||||Our son ran into the glass entrance door to the pool and had a bump on his head. We got some ice and the lady on reception said it had been reported and a sticker lower down the door would be applied.||||This hotel could be so much better and for the money you pay it needs to be better.||||Our stay was good - but not amazing so I’d have to...
Read moreWe stayed for 2 nights in mid-October. It was raining when we arrived. Marjik greeted us and gave us an umbrella as we went to park the car. When we returned, all our luggage had been brought to the room. The customer service was top notch. We were greeted every time we came in the doors with a smile and they never seemed to tire of giving us directions. And we were pleasantly surprised by having our rooms cleaned and linen changed every day. No one does that anymore. Turndown service is also included. The town center is a 5 min walk and there is a group of restaurants less than 2 min from the front door. I always read trip advisor before I book and I was shocked by the complaints about the bathroom not having a door. It is BELGIUM, that is how they do it! Don't expect to go to a foreign country and have everything the way you have it at home. Also, the breakfast buffet included cooked to order eggs, pancakes, fresh fruit, yogurt cereal, breads, pastries, meat and cheeses. Not sure what else they could have possibly added. Sometimes, I think people just like to complain. We absolutely loved this hotel and will recommend it to any who...
Read moreI cannot speak highly enough of this hotel. First of all, the location canNOT be beat. We walked by basically all the hotels we saw online and agreed that Swaene had the best location. Half a block from the middle of everything, but extremely quiet and nature surrounded with the canal and trees. The people have been working there for DECADES which is already a lovely sign. Our taxi was delayed and the woman working there took us herself and was happy to do so. I would say this is an upscale, homey yet historic. Everything feels very high end and clean, but not in the way where everything is cold and white, rather cozy and warm ambiance all around. We stayed in the Junior Suite at the top (room 50) and it was phenomenal. I love it here, I will return.
Pros: ambiance, beautiful breakfast room, solid breakfast, views, location, walkability, cleanest rooms, kindness of staff, comfortable seating and lounging all about, they go above and beyond, pool... List goes on.
Cons: being on the very top floor, the shower had less pressure than desired but it was fine. You can tell it's just because the...
