Rude and racist! Some of the worst service I've ever experienced.

My wife first settled into a table out front while I went to use the loo. While I was away, the waiter rudely tried to get my wife to leave and told her they are not serving people who only want drinks unless we are ordering food. After he couldn't give my wife a good reason for why, he went in and came back and said that his manager begrudgingly said "it was ok to serve us only drinks". Meanwhile we could see tons of other people having only drinks around us and not eating any food.

Once I settled into the table we ordered a cocktail and a beer with the rude waiter. A different nicer lady then brought our our order and set down our cocktail and beer. I politely told her that she had brought me the wrong beer. When she took it back, the rude waiter came back out and said "So now you don't want this beer?" I said I had ordered a different beer. He said "i know what I heard, you are wrong". When I told him again that I'm very sure I want a different beer, he also took the cocktail away from our table and started walking away. When I asked what's wrong why is he taking that drink away he said "we won't serve you people, it's over"

We were mistreated from the beginning and it's so obviously personal/racist that he would rather waste 2 perfectly good drinks and not take any money from us and rather just have us in the restaurant and simply replace one beer.

I tried to ask for a manager but another waiter told me that "he is the manager" which also didn't make sense given that earlier he had to go in and "Ask the manager" if he could serve us drinks without food. The other waiter who I tried to complain about his colleague's behaviour just blankly stared at me, didn't offer any resolution or any promise of any accountability for his colleague.

At this point we did not want to give this business another minute of our time or a penny of our business.

When you read all the other recent google reviews, it seems like a trend of rude and racist behaviour that has been going back consistently over several weeks,...

We arrived and cheerfully greeted the receptionist (Luke); he didn't answer back. Before us, some dutch ladies were checking in, whom Luke treated incredibly. Then he served us and was tremendously rude and impolite. My husband and I speak English as a second language, so I imagine his main problem wasn't frustration for not understanding us, but rather the fact that we're latin americans (I saw how he treated the dutch ladies and immediately afterward how he treated us without even exchanging a word). I imagine that Luke's position is the position of the entire hotel, whether he is the owner or they have decided to assign him the task of receptionist, knowing how he treats people he doesn't "like”. At breakfast, the waitress yelled at us when we asked for napkins, as there were no cutlery or napkins on our table. She told us she hadn't had time to put them on the table (apparently they're very short-staffed). She didn't shout at anyone else at breakfast, even when they asked for more tea or other things. If the hotel don't want to receive latin american guests, it's better to say so, and we'll just stay at another hotel (they really made me feel very uncomfortable and sad on this part of our honeymoon). I prefer to believe that this is the position of only the people of this hotel and not of the whole of Bruges. I find it a contradiction (and vulgarity) that they don't accept us, but they do accept our money. The hotel is nice, charmingly old-fashioned (also a little dark and dusty) and is very well located. It doesn’t have an elevator for the luggage. I recommend NOT staying here if you're dark-skinned or your name...

Lovely little hotel by the canal, with some of the best views in Bruges! Stayed a night here this December, arrived in the morning and the friendly staff were happy for us to leave luggage behind the reception so we didn't need to carry around until 3pm check-in - we also left it after checking out until we set of back to the ferry. Inside is in keeping with the outside of the hotel, our room was on the top floor which meant it had sloping ceiling and the room was small but functional. We still had a canal view, albeit a small window in the alcove. Bathroom also quite small and only had a shower above the bath - due to the sloping ceiling we had to kneel down to take a shower! Everything was spotlessly clean, and the tea/coffee facilities were good too. TV large with a lot of channels, not that we used it other than for the news, and there were bathroom products for us to use too. Breakfast was very good, large selection of meats, cheeses and breads, as well as lots of pastries, different teas and coffees brought to the table. A fresh cooked soft boiled egg is also given to each person. The seating all has views over the canal which is fantastic, there is a corner where the canal curves round the hotel in a V shape which I've never seen before. Overall a great stay and very reasonable prices given the location (right next to the body photographed location in...

*responding to owner* I was giving my honest opinion of the hotel the rude and disrespectful response further adds to what kind of hotel they are and how they operate. BED BUGS – Worst Hotel Experience of My Life If I could give negative stars, I would. I left this hotel with over 80 bed bug bites, and the staff showed zero care or responsibility. They repeated the same excuse mentioned in other reviews — “new mattress, everything is clean” which is clearly not true. The bites have been extremely painful and inflamed for days, causing constant itching, swelling, and sleepless nights even after leaving the hotel. This wasn’t a minor inconvenience it has seriously affected my health and the rest of my trip. The room was musty, poorly maintained, and felt like it hadn’t been cleaned in ages. We even had to spend an entire day washing all our clothes and luggage to avoid bringing the infestation. What’s even worse is seeing other recent guests report the exact same issue and receive the same dismissive response. This isn’t an accident it’s neglect. I honestly don’t know how this hotel is still operating. It’s run more like an abandoned hostel than a hotel. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

I rarely write negative reviews, as I understand that a single visit doesn’t always reflect a restaurant’s full potential. However, I feel compelled to share my experience in hopes it might help fellow travelers set their expectations accordingly. I ordered the risotto, which came recommended by the waiter, along with a portion of mussels. Unfortunately, the risotto lacked any discernible truffle flavor, and its consistency leaned more toward dense dough than al dente. When I politely mentioned it was overcooked, I was told that it was the house’s interpretation of that dish—apparently a version preferred by locals. The mussels, too, left something to be desired. They seemed to have missed the splash of white wine that usually brings the dish to life. To add to the overall mood, I noticed the staff being curt with the guests at a neighboring table, which didn’t help the atmosphere. That said, the setting is undeniably charming. Nestled beside the canal, the view is picturesque and makes for a memorable backdrop. In sum, while the location is lovely, the culinary and service experience on this occasion didn’t quite match the surroundings.
