Hakuna Matata Guest House — Hotel in Plovdiv

I made a reservation and received confirmation, but when I arrived at the hostel there was no room available. I already made the reservation months ago. The guy behind the reception told me they tried to call me 2 days before arrival to cancel because they had a group reservation. They said I gave them the wrong number. I checked and my phone number was correct. They also had my internet information, but they didnt even bother to email me. Furthermore no excuses nothing. They said they could book a room for me at another hostel and bring me there. When I asked for information, the guy was getting annoyed with me. He told me he had better things to do and I had to decide right away. I told him I wanted to look on the internet what kind of place it would be and where it was located, but the guy was getting more and more annoyed. I had to get in the car with him right away. The guy was very unfriendly, even though they were wrong with overbooking. For me no solution. The guy also mentioned this kind of thing happened more often there and other guests just accept other places to stay. You can understand I definitely dont recommend...

This was an unfortunate stay as we read positive reviews prior to booking. We stayed two nights, and on the first only one bathroom that serviced all dorms had toilet paper. On the second night, it was two that had toilet paper but the water had stopped on one, staff was alerted but no sign was put up to notify guests - so everyone kept using it. There was constantly an accumulation of hair in the drains. There is also no microwave and the blinds let light through.

It felt the afternoon/night staff were present but not attentive. The bins were overflowing by dinner, there was a lack of toilet paper and there was fruit rotting in the fruit bowl.

The hostel provided towels and a free breakfast with pancakes which was great, but nobody had much idea what was what and there should be a bit more explanation at check in on what to expect. The lady who managed breakfast in the morning was lovely and helpful - she was amazing and made sure everything was taken care of. A hostel with great potential but is let down by attentive staff (besides the lady doing breakfast, she was attentive and kind) and the finer details of a good hostel. I noticed that there was a lack of understanding whether there’s breakfast and how it works (not told at check in or any signage), toilets consistently running out of toilet paper and a malfunctioning bathroom with no water which was raised with staff yet no sign was put up saying ‘don’t use’ resulting in people continuing to use the toilet and not be able to flush, come dinner the bins are overflowing and they aren’t emptied. I also noticed that in the room which has a balcony has a very thin blind which does nothing once the sun comes up and lights the whole room up.
