Hotel Leda — Hotel in Sofia City

The hotel has BED BUGS! On the 8th of November 2024, I was staying at this hotel. I was sitting on the bed when I noticed bed bugs crawling on the bed sheets, and from under the pillow. I started looking and found several bed bugs in various stages of development, killed some adults bed bugs, and took several photos. After pulling out the bed, it was quite dirty. I have attached the photos of bed bugs. I immediately went to reception to request a change of room. It was around 11pm, and there was only a younger boy at the reception. He was pleasant to deal with, but unfortunately they didn’t have another room, and I had to find another hotel about 10 mins walk away late at night. The boy gave me a full refund in cash on the spot after he discussed the issue on the phone with someone. Afterwards, I asked the boy if any guests had issues with bed bugs before, and he told me no. It is certainly possible he was not aware, and what else are you going to say when representing the hotel I guess. As I said, he has very pleasant to deal with.

After returning home, I looked at other review sites to see if anyone has mentioned bed bugs, and saw that a guest had complained to the manager of the hotel about bed bugs in September 2024. The review is on booking.com dated September 15th with a rating of 5 out of 10. The hotel responded to this review saying they hadn’t received any other complaints about bed bugs from other guests, and said the room of this person had apparently been checked by a pest control company subsequently. This company apparently didn’t find any bed bugs. They went on to say they change the bedding regularly, but this is an unimportant point as this is not how to deal with a bed bug infestation.

From this information, the hotel cannot now say they have received no complaints from other guests about bed bugs, or that the pest control company they work with is competent in dealing with a bed bug infestation.

The presence of bed bugs is not unfortunately where the story ends for travelers. I have a lot of bites from the bed bugs, and I have attached a photo. I also have to quarantine my own luggage upon returning home, and freeze and wash my clothes on a high heat in the hope that I haven’t carried them to...

We arrived at 2:30AM from our flight to Sofia, a really chill and friendly dude from the reception was casually waiting for us at the lobby reception with a huge smile on their face and a friendly, warm attitude despite the fact it was really early in the morning. From the second we stepped in that place we felt welcomed and safe. The dude from the reception provided us with the key for the room and mentioned that he already cranked up the AC so the room will be warm and cosy, he didn’t lie. The room was tidy, clean and the beds felt like we were sleeping on clouds. We were offered free warm drinks to relax us a bit from the traveling, but as we had to go to the nearest shop to buy some stuff we agreed to discuss it after we come back to the hotel. On our way back the dude was casually smoking a cig outside, as soon as he saw us coming he immediately opened the door for us and provided us with the drinks he already made. We had a little chat with the fella and went to bed. In the morning the dude was gone, but a really friendly and polite lady offered us the best cappuccino you could ever have and some breakfast and it was all on the house as a complimentary. The overall quality of this hotel is perfectly aligned with its pricing, and in that sense, it delivers exactly what one might expect. It is a very budget-friendly option that offers decent service and the basic amenities you need for a short stay without any unnecessary frills. However, the biggest drawback—and one that significantly affects comfort—is the bathroom design. There is no separate shower area, so each time you take a shower, the entire bathroom gets flooded. This becomes particularly inconvenient when two people are sharing the same room and bathroom, as it turns something simple like freshening up into an unnecessary hassle. That said, considering how affordable the hotel is, it would be unfair to expect the luxury and comfort of a higher-end property.
