June 25th 2025. After checking in my wife signed up for a 5 pm bus ride to lake Louise. We were told she would receive a call in our room shortly confirming her trip. We waited but the call never came. We had room 334, almost at the end of the hallway. I tried to log on to the internet without success. I called the front desk and an agitated Indian gentleman told me I could come down and bring my devices so he could look at them. I headed downstairs and noted that my devices suddenly connected as I walked down the hallway. The signal is not strong enough to provide reliable connection to some of the rooms.
@ 5:15’ish we went downstairs to see what was going on with the bus ride to lake Louis. The same Indian receptionist told my wife she should just have come down at 5 instead of waiting for the phone call. This was not what we were told when checking in. My wife then inquired about another bus ride, this time to lake Moraine the next morning. He told her he would text her a link. His answers were short and agitated. My wife asked about the schedule of the excursion and was told it would leave at 8 am and return to the hotel would be at 11:30. I asked what time checkout was and received a short “ 11 am”. I asked if a late “noon” checkout would be possible and was rudely explained by a now visibly agitated receptionist that hotel rooms needed to be cleaned and therefore this was not an option, that’s just how hotels work.
Generally when staying in “higher class” hotels we receive a certain level of “service” where we at a minimum are met in a courteous and professional manner by someone who offers a little bit of their time to answer a few questions. This gentleman however was impatient, rude and I found his behavior inappropriate in more than one way.
My wife asked for the manager. It was the same lady who checked us in and told us to expect a call later. In contrary to our Indian friend, she was extremely polite and professional. She immediately apologized for forgetting to call us, booked my wife free of charge a trip the next day to Lake Moraine and granted us a noon checkout.
The hotel itself. The gym is ok at best. The room itself however is old, outdated, no airconditioning, no fridge, old carpet, nothing like the pictures suggest. They did bring us however a portable AC that runs of ice cubes which you then can refill from the Ice machine in the hallway. Its effectiveness was not spectacular and in order to cool the room we slept with the window cracked open which was a mistake on my part as I was woken up by an endless and very loud nearby train at 2 am and again another one at 5 am. It also appears a maintenance station with tanks and large trucks pumping (in or out) was right outside our window creating quite the noise by itself though out the most of the morning leaving coffee on the balcony out of the question. With regards to the Michelin restaurant I can’t give you any feedback on as there was no availability for the evening we stayed here. Make sure to book in advance if that is what you are after.
My wife and I stay at approx 250 - 275 hotels per year between work and leisure travel as we both are Airline Pilots who also happen to travel a lot during our time off. We don’t mind paying for quality and I am not in the habit of writing reviews unless something is exceptionally good or exceedingly bad which ultimately is a valuation (and to some degree expectation) of “experience” vs “cost”. I am going to end by telling you we paid 800 Canadian for this one night in a hotel that was a 200 - 250 dollar experience at best. I hope this review helps you to set your expectations right.
One final note; everyone else we dealt with was very courteous. It appears the gentleman we dealt with was a single case of unprofessionalism. It’s unfortunate but one single case like that colors your...
Read moreWe had two nights’ stay in a suite at the Post Hotel for my birthday treat and the hotel was wonderful - snug and log-cabbiny with magical Christmas decorations. However, we unfortunately found the food to be very overpriced and pretentious, and we actually left hungry, which really spoiled an otherwise lovely experience. If you’re fortunate to have an unlimited budget and love fine wines and nouvelle cuisine then perhaps you’d disagree, but we were underwhelmed by the food. For breakfast at $24 pp, I had one slice of avocado toast and Mike had 3 smallish, plain blueberry pancakes. Tasty, but not filling when you don’t eat lunch. We could have added the $14 “buffet” which was a small continental spread. After a day of hiking in the cold and swimming lengths in the lovely pool we were really looking forward to dinner, but once seated we discovered that there we were expected to pay $145 per person for a 4 course dinner. I find it very hard to justify spending that amount of money on one dinner (without drinks) when so many people are struggling to make ends meet. So, I very embarrassedly asked to see a menu with prices which we were reluctantly given. We shared a salad (small with bitter Brussels sprout leaves) and had the duck entrees (slices of rare breast with a beet and a little cabbage) and the bill still came to well over $200 with a drink each. The booking was also weird - we could only get a 5:45pm slot and the place was almost empty. The rest of the experience was excellent - our leaky Jacuzzi tub was fixed immediately and our suite had a bathroom each and a wood fire. We’d did wish that we’d asked for a suite at the back as our room overlooked the parking lot and the trains went by all night, but that would have been a bigger issue in summer. If I was in charge of the hotel, I’d just change the dining experience - maybe serve the 4 course meal, but also have an a la carte menu with lovely, hearty, warming foods like stews and soups. Also, less people are drinking alcohol these days, so I’d also add more non-alcoholic, creative drink options. Essentially it’s a lovely, old-fashioned, charming log-cabin hotel and i think it should stick with lovely old-fashioned, delicious, hearty, winter food - then it...
Read moreI've lost count of how many times I've stayed at the Post with my family, but I know it's at least a dozen. Every single experience has been fantastic. The staff is amazingly hospitable - to the point that we hold the Post as our highest standard with which to compare other hotels. We come once or twice a year, and every long term staff member remembers us by first name. The rooms are extremely cozy - reminiscent of a rustic cabin out of a homemaking magazine. I'm not sure about every room, but all the rooms we've stayed in have had a fireplace which makes for some warm and relaxing evenings after a full day of skiing. The beds are extremely comfortable and, around dinner time, housekeeping comes around with a "turn down service" where the beds are prepared for sleeping, complete with a bedside water bottle and a chocolate atop the pillow. When we stay for New Year's celebrations, we are greeted by a bottle of champagne on the table. The Post also has a very cute library (complete with games, books, and a bar), a nice pool area (including a hot tub and a steam room), a fitness room, and a fantastic spa. The food at the Post is on another level. Whether it's at the Outpost Pub or in the dining room, nobody in my family had ever been disappointed by their meal. The portions are just the right size and some of the dishes are a little bit inspired by Japanese cuisine, as the head chef spent a few years working in a high end restaurant in Japan. Also - THE BUNS. The complimentary buns received with dinner are absolutely delicious - my brother and I look forward to these buns for the entire year between visits. The location of the Post is extremely convenient - it's about a five minute walk from the Lake Louise Village strip mall where you can find a grocery store (and any personal supplies you may have forgotten), a few VERY good cafes to grab breakfast for the road on your way out, and a nice sports store for all your ski, snowboard, and general winter needs. There's also a complimentary shuttle that runs between the hotel and the ski hill, and if you're planning on returning at a time other than the preschedules ones, you can arrange it with the...
