The hotel is listed as three stars, but I find that to be a stretch. It is reasonably modern and clean. The front desk staff were unremarkable or rude, but the housekeeping staff were pleasant and efficient.
We stayed for two nights, and our party as a whole had 40+ room nights. We specifically chose a venue in a hotel because of the percentage of guests who were travelling from out of town/a different country, but I cannot stress enough how separate the two establishments actually are. Weddings are run, and run well, by Marquis Gardens. The hotel did not care about the amount of business we had brought or that it was our wedding. That’s not to say I expected preferential treatment or substantial extras, but I do think that, for example, they could have waived the late checkout fee ($40 from 1-3 if I recall correctly).
In any case, the real issue with the hotel was with other guests, and then how the hotel handled that. On the floor we were staying on and one of the others that many of my guests were on, we were sharing space with a group of dancers and their 'chaperones.' This almost ruined the entire experience for me and other guests in my party. I think we are all reasonable people, and have reasonable expectations for what goes on in a shared space like a hotel. The behaviour of the dancers and inattention of their chaperones far exceeded this. They were cartwheeling down the hallway and having dance parties until well after midnight., I, and others in my party, spoke directly to the chaperones to no avail -- I think my exact words were "can you please keep it down; I am getting married tomorrow -- literally here -- and would love to not have bags under my eyes." Later, we (at least three of us) called security. None of this had any impact, and the children continued screaming and carousing all night. One of the individuals in the dance group was in the room next to us, which shared an internal door -- incidentally, a room that we had been led to believe could go to someone in our wedding party so that we could get ready in adjoining rooms -- so that every time they slammed their door, the two doors connecting our rooms also slammed. The hotel was aware of these issues, given that we had multiple conversations with the front desk and security. I would have expected an apology upon checkout, at the very least.
The complimentary breakfast is fine, but for some reason consists of mostly disposable cups/cutlery despite being held in an actual restaurant. It seems like a pointless waste of plastic and (from reading other reviews) the hotel has been aware of this for years but still persists with the disposable utensils, plates, and cups. Truly...
Read moreThis is a beautiful, convenient location, and the rooms were spotless. It is unfortunately not worth your time or money to stay here.
I booked 2 rooms with 2 double beds each, for 1 night. We were 5 adults and 2 children. Each room cost $230.00 including tax, and being billed for parking. Our extended group had 7 rooms booked. My view was of the parking lot and the construction site next door. The staff were very friendly. We were not pleased with our stay for the following reasons:
1-If we pay for parking, we expect parking. We were billed for parking, but upon returning for the evening there were no spots available. And really, if I'm paying 200 for a room, you should probably give me free parking. We mentioned this on checkout, but the charge was not removed.
2- there was a very loud group on our floor, they were there for a wedding, I get it, have a good time. Please refrain from public nudity, obnoxiously loud sex, and physical fights. We mentioned this to front desk staff around 4pm, because that's what was going on. When we returned at 1 am, things had clearly further spiralled. We mentioned this to the desk after sidestepping vomit to get in the front door. We arrived on our floor to several screaming matches between couples. There were wine glasses thrown around in the hallway, one against our door. We called the front desk, and one guest was removed. Security later removed another guest from our floor, and cleaned the broken glass up. This was about 3 am. The noise level was still quite loud so we turned the TV guide channel on to drown it out.
3- after a late night, I wanted to sleep. Unfortunately the curtains are very transparent and do not block sunlight, our room faced east.
4- the free breakfast was ok, the food was pretty good. Unfortunately the restaurant/bar was still filthy from the night before and smelled unmistakably of liquor and vomit, which was being mopped up at 7am. The floor was sticky. The ceiling was leaking, so indoor seating was reduced. The outdoor tables had not been washed from the previous night's revelry. Good thing I got there early, by 830 am there were no clean dry seats and no more coffee.
I recommend the hotel buy some adult size pillows, get opaque curtains, crack down on unsafe guest behaviour, retrain the staff, and sort out the parking. At the very least consider additional accessible parking spaces. If the restaurant is too filthy, maybe serve breakfast it in the lobby or an unbooked meeting room? Will not...
Read moreThe hotel was very beautiful. Checking in was effortless. The room given to us was very bad. It was a corner room on ground floor. The room itself was beautiful. The window was facing the patio of the restaurant attached; noise is an issue. You could hear people's conversations and chairs dragging across the floor. You could also hear everything from the washroom (I think the vent leads to the patio). When I say the patio is right outside our window, the patio was level with our room, our room being on ground floor. Therefore, the guests dining in is literally an arms reach away, meaning they could look inside. Privacy was also an issue. We did close the blinds, but why would I want to live in a dark room? Being unsatisfied, my fiancé returned to concierge for relocation. Paula was very unhelpful. She told us all rooms were booked and there's nothing she could do. I told her I knew there were rooms currently unoccupied (we checked in before 4pm, it is impossible for all rooms to be occupied). She said the noise wouldn't last all night and it would eventually stop. We returned to the room and the noise was very annoying. I returned to front desk again and requested for a relocation; she declined again. I told her I knew there is always something she could do (3 times). After the 3rd time, Paula rolled her eyes and stomped towards the back room. Her superior came out and was very kind and helpful. She (I did not catch her name) stated that she is switching my room with another guest that hasn't checked in yet. She then told us that if there's a complaint, we should return immediately and tell concierge. I told her that I complained to Paula and she didn't help me. Like i said, there is always something you could do. We were relocated to a smaller, but much more peaceful room. It shouldn't be difficult to resolve and guest's issue. In the washroom of the new bedroom, we found a previous guest's sports bra hanging behind the door. Ice maker was supposed to be on the 2nd floor. Nowhere to be found. Breakfast set up was inconvenient for short people. Some food was on the high counter (all hot food were on the high counter /table). I witnessed an older woman below 5 feet trying to reach for hot food and almost injured herself. A man and myself had to assist her with obtain her foods. I'm 5 feet tall, I was in my toes and it was still hard to reach. Keep in mind the hot waffle iron is on counter top. It's a nice hotel in a great location. I would return again just as long as the...
