All in all, it’s a nice enough hotel; clean, well-maintained and nicely decorated. On the surface, everything was fine enough, but sadly there were so many little things that lowered my enjoyment.
Surprise $50 Valet Parking… Maybe I missed it on the website, but I was NOT expecting to have to pay that, nor did I know I would need assistance EVERY time I needed access to the car. Of course you tip them each time so that $50 doubled quickly over the couple days.
Pool size… Don’t be caught off guard with the relatively small indoor pool and hot tub. It’s a large hotel and with 3 families down there at once, there’s no room to actually swim or get any peace and relaxation with the seemingly constantly screaming kids.
Gym… Speaking of screaming kids, anyone going to the gym, be prepared to constantly hear kids through the glass when you’re trying to find your zone. Wait until the pool is closed and go exercise in the middle of the night if you want to not be bothered constantly.
Dog Beds… I love that they are pet friendly for all the fur baby parents, but why would a non pet owner need a giant dog bed and bowls in the living area blocking access to the curtains/windows…I feel they should NOT be mandatory to have in your room (especially considering limited space and potential allergy problems), and it should only be there when asked for.
The Mini-Fridge… I get it. Hotels try to make extra money off their customers with ridiculously overpriced items but this was ridiculous. There was NO ROOM in the fridge because there was TWENTY bottles of alcohol in there. TWENTY. (Plus waters/pop/juices) I spent 10 minutes unloading the fridge so that we could actually use it for what we needed. I don’t drink anymore but worked in a bar for decades, so I was shocked to see it all there so accessible. Like kids have VERY easy access to it and I can’t even imagine the horror of someone who’s a recovering addict opening that fridge on day one.I think it’s great that people can get what they want easily and conveniently but offering enough alcohol to kill a person without even ever seeing a bartender…I’m honestly not sure how that’s even legal.
A/C… So it’s cooler than it is outside, I’ll give them that but it’s still too warm in the suites even with it cranked. We should be able to find a comfortable temperature during the day and not be simply sitting in the room with sweat dripping down our brow. At night? I sure wouldn’t bother using their ‘comforter’ considering how thick and warm it is for the middle of summer. If you’re cold-blooded, you’ll likely love it, but if you’re even remotely a heat producer like me…get ready to sweat all night long.
Room size… Not much room to move around in the bedroom and you can barely get by the wall hanging TV when leaving the bathroom.
The bathroom… There’s no fan. Which isn’t necessarily a problem in itself but let’s just say the sliding door to the bedroom softens ZERO noise from that room which leads to some uncomfortable moments for everyone in the room…
When booking the hotel a month ago, we requested a high floor and extra feathered pillows. Neither request was met.
We had very limited interaction with any staff (except for the front desk and valets) but the few we did were friendly and efficient.
I wouldn’t NOT stay here again, it was fine enough, but I’d likely try a different hotel next time in Calgary to try get a different...
Read moreStayed at the Sheraton Eau Claire in Calgary for one night recently. The eau Claire area of Calgary is great and centrally located to a lot of restaurants, bars, walking paths, and the river. There’s a lot of construction right now, so the drive way area can get a little congested for check in etc but the valets do a good job where they can of moving vehicles. Parking options are limited so be prepared, it’s either Valet, adjoining parking lots, or street parking. I’ve used the valet before and they really are great, but opted for street parking this time. ||Open and clean lobby. Check in was typically fast and smooth. Great dealings with Deine and Cecilia (tourism and hospitality student) who were efficient, friendly, and recognizing my bonvoy status provided me a complimentary upgrade to a corner suite. I was asked if I needed a late checkout and took advantage of the offer. ||The room itself was not massive but larger than the normal suites. It made good use of space, with a separate seating area, a seperate bedroom with a comfortable bed, standalone closets and shelves and a second small TV. The bathroom was quite large with both the seating area and bedroom having access to it. A large soaker tub was a nice touch, but does come with the tradeoff of a very small shower. The room was clean, and while by no means “modern” it was functional and comfortable. Pleasantly surprised to receive turndown service had been done when I returned to my room. ||The club lounge on the 15th floor was a bit lacking in snacks when not staffed, but breakfast was great, and the ability to access the patio and enjoy the nice weather was huge. Large pool / hot tub area was extremely busy with kids due to the water slide, but the next day it was much calmer. ||Really love this hotel. Staff treat you well, you don’t fight for your benefits that you’ve earned, and it’s in a great location. Will keep coming back if I’m in that...
Read moreApart from a few issues - our stay was fantastic. Probably the cleanest hotel I've stayed in. Housekeeping was incredible. Timely and efficient. The housekeepers are likely the hotels best asset. Valet parking attendants leave a bit to be desired.
Simple phone service to obtain your car, order room service etc was near impossible.
I believe the main phone in the suite did not work. If it did, then the Sheraton service is deplorable. Over three days, I tried to call valet parking, concierge and guest services over and over. Each time ringing and ringing until the call cut off. One two occasion I tried calling the above three auto dial preprogrammed extensions over and over with not one call being amswered until I switched to the bedroom phone where the call was answered after 2-3 rings. I informed guest services that I thought the main phone was working but got no response beyond "sorry"... No one came to check the phone and the issue continued until I left.
The only other concern was the valet parking attendants. Valet parking wasn't inexpensive but both on arrival and departure the attendant didn't even offer to help us remove our bags from the trunk. And I'm not young. Despite this I tipped $5 every time I requested my car or dropped it off. There was barely a thank you. Perhaps I'm out of date but thought a tip would at least ensure someone helped w loading and unloading luggage.
And to top it off, Sunday morning Club Lounge breakfast included a long hair well mixed in to the scrambled eggs. Which they removed as soon as I mentioned it. I would have expected the Sheraton public health standards included wearing hair nets in the kitchen. Totally gross.
It's a good hotel even though one of the restaurants was closed and we had the above issues.
I hope someone addresses the phone issue. And suggests that $29/night valet parking should entitle the customer to some assistance. And buys the cooks...
