Knox United Church is a Gothic Revival church located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and is a member church of the United Church of Canada.
Knox Presbyterian Church was established in 1883 Rev. James Robertson, Superintendent of the Western Mission for the Presbyterian Church in 1881. Their first church building was opened on October 21, 1883, a small wooden building. It was completed for $1000.
A new, larger, building was constructed at the corner of Centre Street and Seventh Avenue. Designed to seat 330 people it was a stone construction which cost $8,000. As the congregation continued to expand, a subsequent building was erected in 1912-13 at the corner of Fourth Street and Sixth Avenue South, the site of the present day Knox United Church.
The church building was designed by Calgary architects Lawson & Fordyce in consultation with Allen & Collens of Boston. The building is one of the most sophisticated examples of Gothic Revival architecture in western Canada.
The church split in 1925 after some members of the congregation voted to join with the United Church of Canada. Those who wished to remain in the Presbyterian Church went on to form a new, separate congregation.

Titled “The Suffering of Mankind,” the 9,982-piece glass window depicts dead and dying soldiers from both sides of the conflict, as well as knights representing virtues like nobility and brotherhood. Also, a woman handed in my keys there, after I sought refuge there to take photos of the stained glass and woods used and try the coffee and Carrott Cake(delicious and well priced) Tipping is allowed. This is not free BTW but its a large heritage building, and the ministry needs the money to run the building like water ,electricity, missions (and I paid for parking across the street) think of Esphesians , the body of Christ. I heard a great sermon on 3 seperate Sundays at Church of the Nazerne by a guest pastor whose daughter had driven him in as his wife was ill. It was extremely good. He also told a story of a cowboy and the congregation who shamed him for the way he dressed... But better told by him. At any rate this was a great Church (Knox). I mentioned it to a male escort I was in love with at the time. Andromeda. I must admit I did park in Reverends parking stall when it was closed for repair for the side door. Forgive me I was so thankful that cleaner at Knox directed me to the 3 women in the office who had my...
Read moreWe had an absolutely incredible experience getting married at Knox United Church this past June! Keith Murray performed our marriage ceremony and we wanted to sincerely thank them for their incredible kindness, care, and attention to detail that they exhibited towards us while we planned our wedding ceremony at Knox. We also wanted to truly thank Keith, and the Knox team (especially Sue Forsyth) more broadly, for setting up and performing such an amazing ceremony and providing a wonderful personalized message/sermon, as it made our wedding day even more perfect! Knox's historic and beautiful building, sanctuary, history, and congregation and staff really provided us a beautiful and wonderful place to be married. We have been reflecting on our wedding ceremony recently, and we wanted to share how grateful we are for everything the team at Knox did to make our wedding go so smoothly. They truly helped make it the best day we could have hoped for! Lastly, thank you for allowing Binah - Knox's spiritual support dog - to be a part of our wedding day, she was so cute and it was so special to have...
