Obviously, the thing this park has going for it is the location that allows for walking to all things in the town. But you will pay a premium rate for that walkability and be crammed so close to your neighbor that you may run directly into their rig or awning if you aren't careful walking around your campsite. The electrical did work which was helpful as we could run the ac and eliminate most noises that come from very cramped busy areas. The wifi would never stay connected even for a few minutes so we simply gave up on that. Most sites have a small picnic table, ours was sitting directly on top of the sewer lines and there was a huge puddle of who knows what in the same under the table area. The smell would have ruined any appetite if we even thought to have a meal at that table or even if we had our windows opened. We had a tiny stretch of grass and a potted planter which was helpful and appreciated as it gave our dogs a little space but we had to make sure their wire pen was set as far from the water bog as possible. There is no place to walk dogs at the campgrounds but the walkability with town was again helpful there. The office staff was very friendly and we certainly understand the push to make money during a short visitor season, but this park took the challenge of seeing how many RVs can fit in a small city block way too seriously. We left early AM and there was added stress as even maneuvering out of our spot was difficult with so many vehicles haphazardly parked in an attempt to fit in the space provided, it made all turning points very minimal. If being able to walk around town from a camping spot is important, you might overlook the many downsides to this RV park but unless you have a very small trailer or grab one of the very tight pull thru's, chances are you will have to unhook and park sideways in front of your space and hope no one hits your vehicle as they work their way through the park. If you will have to unhook anyway you might seriously consider driving back into town to visit but camp elsewhere...
Read moreWe were planning to stay at the territorial campground across the river but decided on giving up privacy for convenience. The location is the big draw for this campground; it is located in downtown Dawson near the northern edge of town. It is possible to walk to all attractions in the city. The staff were excellent; friendly and accommodating. The main building had bathroom and shower facilities and a laundry room. The reception area had small gift items, some useful items (laundry detergent) and snacks. The woman's bathroom had two flush toilets and two shower stalls. The whole area was kept very clean. The showers are basic small shower stalls with a shower curtain; there is a small area outside of the shower where you can change and hang clothes and towels that has swinging "saloon" type doors that don't afford much privacy because of the cracks but can be locked (I think it was with a hook and eye type...not that secure). You need to purchase a token to use the shower; $2 for 6 minutes for registered campers. It would always take a while for the water to heat up so we usually bought two tokens to be safe. The showers are available for 24hrs but the office to purchase them closes in the evening so get your tokens before they close. Bring flip flops or sandals to wear in the showers. there are approximately 8 washers and maybe 6 dryers that are coin operated. You may get coins at the reception. The laundry facilities are only open during certain hours (I think 8am to 7pm) so plan accordingly. There is a sani-dump and our site had access to water and electricity. Our site was basically what you expect from a parking spot at a parking lot. There was no privacy but for us it was not an issue because we were out exploring every day that we were there. There was also free WIFI; we were given two access codes for the three of us which I grudgingly gave to my two teens. I didn't bother to ask for another...
Read moreIf you're looking for an out of town campground, with trees and plenty of space between vehicles then you may need to head to Tok or Whitehorse. However, if you're looking for a campground located in the heart of Dawson City, just minutes away from amenities, with very helpful staff then this is for you. We stayed 2 nights to explore Dawson City and really couldn't fault this place. Toilets and showers are clean and open 24/7 (with a code at night). There is drinking water on tap and laundry facilities (token to be purchased at reception). The German guy on reception was super helpful and friendly. Yes it's quite tightly packed, but that meant we had great chats with people from Oregon who'd just done the Dempster, a German couple in their miltary style vehicle who'd done the same and a a lovely group of ladies from Whitehorse who'd come up for the Trʼondëk Hwëchʼin gathering...
