My husband and I called Damo Massage at 12:00 noon to book a same-day appointment for 90-minute couples’ massages at 4:00 PM. When we arrived, a staff member greeted us, acknowledged our appointment, and requested upfront payment, which we provided.
After we paid, the staff member made a loud phone call in Mandarin, asking additional masseuses to come in because none were currently available onsite. This call, combined with the sound of falling objects like chairs, contributed to an unrelaxing atmosphere. Given that the massage parlor consisted of cubicles separated by screens, the noise was extremely disruptive.
My husband and I waited for 15 minutes until a masseuse arrived. When she first entered, she quickly left again, expressing surprise in Mandarin that there were two of us. A few minutes later, she returned, gave my husband a slap on his butt, and began his massage. She then informed me that I would need to wait another 30 minutes for the second masseuse, meaning my massage would start 45 minutes after our scheduled appointment time.
My husband was very dissatisfied with his massage. Though he prefers soft to medium pressure, he had to request firmer pressure twice. The massage motions, in addition to lacking pressure, were small and unrhythmic. This resulted in a massage of poor quality, not one of professional quality.
After 30 minutes had passed, the second masseuse still had not arrived. The masseuse already present then said she would alternate between massaging both of us. At this point, we decided to terminate the appointment and requested a refund. We had paid for two 90-minute massages, and had waited 45 minutes without receiving the full service. We offered to pay for the 30 minutes my husband had already received.
As we tried to leave, two staff members repeatedly blocked our exit and attempted to persuade us to stay by offering alternatives, such as two-hour-long massages. Given the significant delay and poor service quality, we declined. After speaking with a manager over the phone and negotiating back and forth, we eventually received the partial refund we requested.
While this was going on, the masseuse who had performed the massage repeatedly hugged my husband and kept trying to hold his hand. When we finally left, she quickly ran to get us candy and chased after us as we walked away, insisting that we take the candy.
I have lived half my life in Asia and understand that cultural differences may influence business practices. Nevertheless, even with cultural differences taken into account, our experience at Damo Massage was the most unprofessional we have encountered. We felt not only disappointed, but hustled, as if Damo was stringing us along to justify keeping our money, despite their inability to provide the massages we had...
Read moreDO NOT COME HERE. I can assure you most of them 5 star reviews were because the people were pressured to leave a 5 star review before leaving.
I called and made an appointment with Nancy. I showed up and got assigned a diffferent masseause. They made me pay upfront which should have been my first sign to run. I get on the table and the "massage" was literally just an oil rub. No pressure was applied after I repeatedly asked for some. I was so annoyed that I asked to cut my massage short and leave. For the first 15min i contemplated if I should do this because I hate compaining and literally never do anything like this.
Then when I tried to leave the manager came in and was like "no I will finish, I am a professional" ... like ok so you knew the other girl was not a professional. Honestly, she was a lot better thank god. Then when I was leaving she asked me to tip. THE AUDACTIY. I was like no sorry (I always tip 20% at restraunts but I literally could not tip). Then she wouldnt give me my receipt until I left a 5 star review. So now I am coming back to change my 5 star review to a 1 star because I am...
Read moreI was initially a bit unsure of what to expect when we booked our massages at Damo, but it turned out to be a great decision. My husband and I each had 90-minute sessions, and both of us left feeling completely refreshed.
Our massage therapists, Jin Jin and Maria, were kind, welcoming, and attentive. When I mentioned that the room felt a little too warm, Jin Jin quickly adjusted the air conditioning and made sure I was comfortable for the rest of the session. The entire experience felt very professional—they really focused on the sore spots and used just the right amount of pressure.
What impressed us most was the value. The price for two 90-minute massages was equivalent to what many nearby spas charge for just one. If you're not looking for the full luxury spa ambiance and simply want an excellent massage at a fair price, Damo is a fantastic choice.
No frills, no extras—just a genuinely great massage. We'll...
