Worst hotel we've ever been to.
We've been driving across Canada for the past 4 days and came to Edmonton for 2 weeks. This is our first day here and we're already regretting it. When we arrived, we saw a bunch of homeless people smoking RIGHT next to the "no smoking" sign on the wall. We entered and had to wait 5 minutes for service. There wasn't even a bell to ring. My mom is handicapped and we have to push her wheelchair everywhere, so they gave us a room on ground floor. First of all, the wheelchair couldn't fit in the doorway. We had to lift my mom up and squeeze the chair in. Once we got in the room, we realized that it was smaller than any other room we've ever had. If you thought the door was a problem, there's barely any room for anything inside the actual room. Without the AC on, we can hear everything outside: the courtyard. People talking, dogs barking, cars honking and overall giving all of us huge headaches. The room seemed clean until I found a bug near my bed. The beds were actually extremely small and uncomfortable, but i guess that compared to sleeping in a truck for 3 nights straight, they were like normal beds. Then the pool. My brother went to the pool yesterday night and not even an hour later, we get called over because other kids were running around the pool. When I got there, I saw my brother, crouched up in the corner of a knee deep puddle of a "pool", getting yelled at by a retired man in his 90's. And by coincidence, I didn't see the kids running around. They left when the staff said they were gonna call their parents. Because my brother was the only kid left, they blamed him. He didn't even do anything wrong. The breakfast area was almost 3 meters squared and there was barely any food. Aside place. from 2 types of cereal that taste like nothing, a few toasts, some rock-hard fruits and a coffee machine that looks like it survived Germany 1942. There wasn't even stuff to make waffles.
I'm sure there's gonna be more inconveniences but for now, this is enough to make anyone leave without a second's worth of hesitation. If it werent for the fact that we have no money for another hotel, we'd already be gone to...
Read moreDO NOT STAY HERE!! We chose this hotel because the photos were nice, the attached Smitty's (our favourite late night hang-out at home), waterslide, the outdoor seating and yard area, and because it was close to the mall. We were staying for 3 nights. As soon as we pulled in, our terrible experience started. We immediately saw that the Smitty's was replaced with a pizza depot (the front desk lady said it hasn't been a Smitty's for the 2 years she's worked there) even though it is still pictured on their ads, our first room had an overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke, we changed rooms and were downgraded to a smaller room, the new room had mold in the bathroom, had fruit flies everywhere, cigarette burn in the blanket, half the outlets didn't work and we had to unplug things to plug in our stuff (even went out and bought an extension cord), key card constantly had to be reactivated, waterslide was broken and pool/hot-tub looked dirty that we didn't go in, and the yard area was completely unkept and unable to walk through. We wanted to check-out immediately but couldn't because everywhere was full for the concert that weekend. When I raised my concerns on their internal review, I had to wait days for a response and then was offered a 10% discount. I told them it was unacceptable and they directed me to the GM of this hotel - where I had to explain my whole experience over again. Again, I had to wait days for a response and the GM, Aala, didn't even bother answering themselves and forwarded my message for the front desk manager to respond. The front desk manager, Arshpreet, only offered a free night stay at THIS HOTEL. I said I would absolutely not accept a free stay at a hotel I had an awful experience at and asked them to reconsider. I never heard back from them and they refuse to actually resolve this situation. It is concerning that management do not find the cleanliness, health, and false advertising issues as serious as they are. I've always had good stays at Wyndham hotels and use them at work when booking employees for out of town work, so I'm shocked about this experience and how they are handling it. They've definitely lost a...
Read moreCouldn't get rooms near each other, no communication, disappointing breakfast. Didn't feel clean.
Liked · We liked that it was close to West Edmonton Mall which was the purpose of our visit. They had an elevator to make things easier to bring our belongings up. They offered breakfast, but it was quite minimal.
Disliked · When we arrived parking was tight as apposed to other hotels we stayed at and not well lit. Front counter looked worn and plain. Front desk clerk told us that our request to have two rooms close together couldn't be done even though I had booked it 5 days in advance and was told they were overbooked. Wish they would have communicated this to us in advance and I could have looked at other places. MIL ended up staying on the second floor (damaged door had looked like someone had tried to force their way in) and we ended up on the 4th floor and the very end of the hall. Ice machine was on the first floor and required your room access card to gain entry which was also the laundry room. BTW, the dryer didn't work. Slow moving elevators small and only one available. The hallways and rooms didn't feel very clean. Probably old bedding. Towels looked dirty. Walls are thin and we can hear other people talking, but don't worry too much about that because we had the loudest air conditioning unit I've ever encountered. You're forced to put the TV on max volume just to hear dialog. My daughter and wife suffered I had noise cancelling earbuds I had to wear all night so I wasn't irritated. Breakfast tickets are given to customers but was told you can't bring your breakfast to your rooms unless their was no seating available. Breakfast room was very small, no natural light and very disorganized. At least they had a waffle making station....but it was out of order. One note about our rooms, there is next to no storage for your belonging so you'll be living our of your bags. One small box drawer and one small open face drawer is all you get. No place for your shoes and you have to hang your jackets in the farthest corner of the room. Definitely a strange layout. We certainly will not be booking with this...
